You're still my favorite photographer of all time and I always swing by your channel to get inspired, even all these years later. I hope you're alright.

Interesting video, BTW, how to set the right white balance for the UV-induced visible fluorescence photography if we don't have UV grey card?

Heh. I have worked in UVR off an on, and only tried UVF one time. (with minimal research). This video gave me some good points where the two techniques differ and I probably messed up.

Could I filter the lens rather than the flash to capture uvivf fluorescence? I have converted a Vivitar 286 to full spectrum. I also have a full spectrum converted Canon 60d. If I stack a Schott S8612 filter and a U-340 on the lens while firing the flash uncovered will I achieve the same results?

do I really need to use sunscreen when I'm shining 2 UVA torchlight towards a plant? I mean is it really worse than going to the beach? after all, if I don't get a "sunburn" it means it was less 'stressfull' for my skin than going outside. I got a 2xUvBeast V3 365 nm torchlight, but now I'm scared to use them lol

hey! Maybe ridiculous question - If I put a UV sensor on a drone and flew it over a field of flowers, would I be able to see anything or do I have to have an UV emitter as well? Notice, that don't want necessarily to create a photograph only but I want to see how the flower patterns distribute over space
@PhotoExtremist7 жыл бұрын
I interpret you talking about Reflective UV photography, not UVIVF. The sun emits UV-A light for certain, so yes, if you had a camera sensor that was only recording UV frequencies, the flowers and whatever else that reflect UV frequencies would show up on the sensor. If you are talking about UVIVF, it would need to be done at night, and you would need an extremely extremely powerful UV lightsource to see anything.
@Nunocesarsa7 жыл бұрын
interesting, i got to set up some low cost testing scheme. Since only UV-A goes through the atmosphere we would need some kind of sensor that would be have a very good spectral resolution in this area. Thanks!

Not related at all but, if you play the video from 3:35, to about 3:47, with your iPhone about 12" away, Siri asks 'What can I help you with'? I've done this a dozen times now, it works every time. WTF?

Is a uv torch safe for sfx make up?
@scottporter45248 жыл бұрын
So do you just need a filter to add to a flashlight essentially to make it a UV flashlight? If so, I was thinking of something extreeeeme like say adding that UV filter onto a spotlight (40,000 candlewatts). I know thats extreme overkill but it would completely light up everything sooo vibrantly in UV that it would just look so much more badass than any other 'flashlight', since its a flashlight on steroids.. Please let me know man, I rrrrrreeeeally want to do this just as bad as you do!!
@PhotoExtremist8 жыл бұрын
No - a regular flashlight you buy at some common local store will most likely not emit any UV light, only visible light and maybe IR light.
@sho_ffs6 жыл бұрын
You are great! I use the same technique! ^-^
@hingeslevers8 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Jeez the price on those filters though...
@neeneko8 жыл бұрын
+hingeslevers You should see the price on UV corrected lenses. I have a couple lenses that just _happen_ to not shift much across UV-VIS-IR, but ones that are built for it, that actually accept autofocus... pricy little toys. UVR is a bigger pain in the ass than UVF even.

Hey, I'm asking this while I'm watching the video, so I'm sorry if it's already said, but I want to make a photoshoot with UV lights on model, is it dangerous for people or the skin?

I am planning on trying this out, but i wanted to make sure all i need to buy is the Canon Speedlite 199A flash and the U 340 + S8612?
@PhotoExtremist8 жыл бұрын
Correct. You may need to purchase a UV-Blocking filter for the front of the lens, but chances are it will not be necessary.

Hello. The unfiltered Flashlight should be same or more dangerous than the light, the source contains all waves. I think it cannot be more dangerous for skin. Or i'am wrong thinking? The only real danger i see with this, is that you can look to much or long in it without pain, so yout eyes getting toasted. The filter only cannot producing some extra uv-energy. The strobe without filter should be much more dangerous for eyes and skin, shouldn't it???
