I was so torn between Celtic era 2 and uvi world suite 2, but After carefully listening to the multiple hours of you playing with this and Celtic era 2, you've shown me that the only logical solution is to buy both. So many beautiful sounds we rarely hear in north america and I can't wait to get lost in these libraries! Thank you so much for your in-depth overview of everything and for actually playing the instruments so we can hear exactly what we're buying, in context instead of just the stock "demo tracks" seen on the websites. You're awesome! I love your energy, enthusiasm and knowledge! Can't wait to see more from you! Keep it up! 🤘🔥🤘

Torben, at the time I was using a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd gen. All of the sound is directly from the computer output into the video recording software with no additional EQ or processing to ensure the library comes through as it should right out of the box. My voiceover is a Rode shotgun mic just in front and above my head. I am using Cakewalk by BandLab as my DAW host that helps me route the virtual instrument and microphone sound directly to OBS Studio to record the audio and video. Thanks so much for the kind words and support.

Didier Malherbe (Gong) plays all kinds of flutes & pipes. He was the first person I heard play a Hadouk. He appeared, quite fortunately for me with Pip Pyle on drums as RSVP with Richard Sinclair playing bass & singing about the evening as it unfolded while Tony Coe* played strings as I recall, (*Hatfield and The North) .There's a song, possibly even an album called 'Hadouk' by Didier Malherbe. He's a Wizard with wind instruments. That whole album is just so sweet & deep. It has kind of a laid back, almost goofy birdliness to it. I've spoken to Didier many times, he's a fascinating bloke. It wouldn't surprise me to learn he added a fair bit to this World Suite 2 collection. He KNOWS reverb like it's his very own playground. ;)

Great to see you play through a number of very cool sounding instruments. Although I get the comments below regarding the idiomatic challenges when playing guitars, harps or pipes on a keyboard, I still love what you are (already) able to “pull off” here!
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks my friend. I was also thinking about this; I am playing the sounds in a very exposed way. I remember the first time watching the recording studio engineer hit the dreaded “solo” on the console and there it was my teenage voice blasting, raw, exposed and all coming through the monitors, I will never forget that moment. Things were much better when I heard that same voice mixed in with the rest of the instruments and other vocalist. The same can possibly be said here; the instruments on their own seem to sound raw and exposed but when placed in the context of a more complete arrangement then that is when they will shine best. UVI has given us quality ingredients, it is up to us to bake the perfect cake. 🎂 😇
@TemmeSikkema
@TemmeSikkema 4 жыл бұрын
Simeon Amburgey Definitely. These instruments are rarely heard exposed but are usually part of an ensemble. Actually, even solo I am astounded by how well they hold up and have depth and I don’t know... “oomph”. Of course, baking cakes is the hardest part. These cakes can follow ancient old recipes OR be idiomatically “incorrect” and still sound fresh and original (which was my prime reaction to Jordan Rudess’ playing). Both are tasty cakes! There is also the Dutch word “misbaksel”, which in its most literal sense, is something I bake very often ;-)

I wonder if I need to build a template for this! I mean the browsing capability in this workstation player defeats the need for a template, No?!
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. While the browser is ok, with all of the instrument content it still can be a little overwhelming. I have been going through and marking some as FAVORITES but that still leaves a lot of content to manage. So a template would be a timesaver if you find yourself going for a specific starting point from time to time. I normally do not use a template but start each project from scratch which I am rethinking in order to maximize my workflow. Thanks so much for watching. I am glad you are enjoying the channel. I have to say, after owning this for some time, that the guitars are not quite there to my ears. I've been playing classical, acoustic and electric for many years. They still sound a little synthetic. A little too much if you will. The library is still a great great tool for composing and having a palette at your fingertips. So you can creat full sounding mocks to show clients. Btw, your playing is phenomenal. Thanks for the video.
@PraiseTracks

I find when a collection has a so many instruments it could fall into the jack of all trades, category. It is similar to the older workstation keyboards that had to have so many instruments represented using only a small amount of sample memory. There are some real gems in there but it may take a little time to find them. I also struggle with the keyboard player trying to articulate the guitar voicing correctly. Thanks so much for watching and your kind encouragement. Joyfully!🎹

from the videos I've watched, much of the library sounds synthetic when compared to ethno world 6...workstation keyboard level for sure...they would have sounded amazing in 2000, ..but with DAWs not having the constraints of keyboards, we have surpassed that sound

I have to say that it is very challenging for someone who’s primary instrument is keyboard to translate all of the different techniques required to create authentic sounding parts. We tend to approach everything from our personal experience and perspective. I was overwhelmed somewhat at only having the library for a few days but eager to share my candid explorations with everyone. I really appreciate the feedback as it just confirms a personal challenge for me to never stop learning and diving deeper into becoming the very best musician that I can be, Thanks so much for watching.

Just a few days ago I watched a video by Daniel Fisher on playing guitar sounds with the keyboard - very enlightening and I'd recommend it to anyone using sample libraries. I'm originally a percussionist so my keyboard experience was limited to marimba, vibes, etc. Playing piano is a challenge for me even without trying to emulate other instruments with samples. - wish I played half as well as you do Simeon! :) Thanks for the upload - missed the livestream and was hoping you'd put up an edited version.

@@PraiseTracks Yes I agree, but your playing is magnificent! And i've heard it before that the world suite has a few savory instruments, but also some very good ones, I think that is shown in your playthrough. I have to admit those bagpipes and uilleann pipes sound very bad, but for the amount you get I can understand how very reasonable the price is. Also some of the 'good' instruments are from precision sounds (or so i've heard). Thank you for your videos I really look forward to hearing you play and talk about the instruments

Bert I always appreciate constructive feedback. So the boldness was not caused by the sound itself, but rather the possibilities of learning more about instruments I have never had any personal experience hearing before. It challenges me to dive deeper into learning more about the cultures, the instruments, the music, and rich history contained in all of them, as well as wanting to learn how they are authentically played. I am still learning and discovering. Sometimes the negative forcefully shoves us to look in a positive direction.

I have not played Era Celtic, but I see it was developed by Eduardo Tarilonte and that speaks volumes as to the quality you would get from the library. The Celtic instruments in World Suite 2 are very nice but like any large bundles of instruments seem to limit things in a way as you are trying to cover, well, the WORLD! I would definitely check out the more in depth walkthroughs however and see how it feels to you. Thanks so much for watching. All the best.
