I will say it again and again as a Guyanese I am frustrated and greatly saddened as to why our University of Guyana wasn't a campus of the UWI System so many decades ago??? Today marks the 47th anniversary of Caricom and my mind raced to this nobel institution of higher learning for many reasons... But what's alarming to me and I'd like to believe many others is that our late President Burnham was a founding member of this integration movement that later became known as Caricom, why didn't he see the wisdom of integration in the tertiary education sector?? How come his then Minister of Education didn't advice him even if he had failed to think about it? How come we didn't have a standardization of the university system as is proven to be most effective across the three campus countries? Now, there is a fourth campus! Remember we already have the Caribbean Examinations Council! Today, we Guyanese should have proudly gotten the UWI, Turkeyen Campus!!! Today I read that UWI is ranked among the top 💯 universities around the world! Where is our UG ranked currently and I don't mean to belittle this institution of higher learning but we are talking about international accreditation and rankings among other important metrics? But it's not late for this proposal to be considered. Please make haste while the sands of the Sahara keep blown towards the Caribbean!... Happy Caricom Day my dear Caribbean brothers and sisters and especially to the entire UWI System board members, staffs and students.
