Great debate to trickle up the realization of our society specially our material world; however, there is no magic tool and perfect society as most of the things depend on many factors i.e. context, environment, generic, appropriation of time, etc. I think as long as it's morally supportive within your societies' context, norm, etc everything would be fine and peaceful.

What If.... Markets should be used to maximize prosperity BUT not at the expense of Disparity. There should be a basic equation for price models that incorporate profit (prosperity sufficient to cover costs and provide a return) that does not increase the social balance of Disparity (which needs to be measured and is both temporal and contextual within a given geographical region). This latter input into the pricing model does NOT exist today, but I would challenge the economists to promote this social measure along with the environmental measures and those of the general economy as a way to manage pricing. This way (internal pricing models can be protected from competition) but external pricing for products can be set (not by individuals in any one government), but by the geographic, economic,, and environmental measures to assure the supply & demand cannot dictate prices without achieving a balance for the overall good. This universal pricing model could be built into each part of the supply chain and it would force organizations to reduce their costs even if they are the only available supply (or during temporal spikes in Demand). A universal pricing model might be a tool that improves the democratization of pricing and balances and/or limits the encroachment of marketization.

Bottled water = necessity. Snow shovel = luxury. Both benefit the rich....which isn’t fair.

Hi there two inputs: 1- in case of natural disaster and low supply of fresh water I shall answer this as the shop owner "presumably I'm not killed 😅" I shall put a 100$ price tag on each bottle of water so the rich can only buy a small amount enough for basic needs then the price shall drop gradually and I still have enough for everyone till the government have time to bring emergency supplies. At this time if any of the water remains it will be for free and I would have made a small fortune By doing so I'm using market dynamics for the best interest of my shop and the society 2- question if anyone could answer please: in the example of students collecting donations for charity are the three groups aware of the other two scenarios? meaning is the group with no commission incentive knows about the incentive given to the other two groups? Because if the three groups knows about the three scenarios that would be enough motivation for the group without incentive to double their efforts in the challenge in order to win this is like any underdog at any given sport, the club have little resources to reward the players but the players still sweating their butts as the win here will have a different meaning Finally Thx Prf. Sandel Thx to Uniwersytet Warszawski and thx to the internet that gave me the opportunity join such a debate. AMR

WHEN YOU PAY YOUR KIDS TO READ BOOKS , DO YOU SIT DOWN WITH THEM & EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT WHEN THEY REACH 18 THAT YOU WILL NO LONGER DO THIS PLUS NO ONE ELSE WILL BE LIKELY TO DO THIS FOR THEM . MAKE IT KNOWN TO THEM CLEARLY , THAT THEY WILL BE BETTER OFF NOT EXPECTING PAY FOR ACHIEVEING MORE OUT THERE IN THE MARKET PLACE , THAT IT DEPENDS ON WHAT THE EMPLOYER WILL DECDIDE & FEW EMPLOYERS EVEN WANT TO PAY YOU THE FULL AMOUNT FOR THE STANDARD AMOUNT OF WORK REQUIRED IN THE CONTRACT ....
