Checking out three dehumidifiers, all with different problems: a nice one, a modern piece of junk and a basket case. Even though it's a piece of plastic crap, I'm tempted to fix the Haier unit just because I can.
It turns out that the Aqua Dri model was sold by Ebco/Oasis and manufactured for them by Samsung. Samsung sold the same basic thing here in the United States as well, and they seem to be quite common. While it seems that no parts are actually available, I found an exploded diagram with part numbers here: bigfishcoolers....
(I would really like to find the water pan/bucket and maybe even a grille.)
Rather curiously, a Tecumseh compressor is called out as being utilized by the parts list. While stranger things have happened, I'd be surprised to learn that Samsung had Tecumseh print their name on a compressor and ship it all the way to Korea. It seems like a domestically produced option would have been a lot cheaper and well within Samsung's capability.
Of course, it's equally surprising that Ebco/Oasis farmed out production of this model to another company, considering that they were an actual manufacturer...unless maybe Aqua-Dri was a budget offering?
Sears Coldspot 30 video: • Sears Coldspot Thirty ... (still going strong here in August 2016, only 44 years after it was made!)
Ebco/Oasis D-30L video: • Oasis D-30L Dehumidifier (also still going strong here in August 2016, 22 years after it was made!)
I point out the lifetimes of these two units just to show you how inexcusable it is that the Haier unit laid down and died in a fraction of the time.
The Kenmore model seems likely to be fine as soon as I've got the whole matter of bucket presence and fill level switches figured out. If I make the band tight enough that the fill level switch works, the bucket presence switch does not. I'm seriously thinking of just disconnecting the bucket presence switch. It ran for several hours without incident while sitting on the tailgate of my truck.
