Hi! Great trip! I admire your 211 km day! But… crazy Turkish roads! I went from Geneva (Switzerland) to Damascus 20 years ago: Turky was super Dangerous. Now, I just cross Spain! 15 days ago, 1200 km in 54 hours. If you are still in long trip try these last country. Good luck and thanks for the video!

That's awesome man. May I ask how was the Spain tour? Which cities did you cross ?
@philippefriederich5493 жыл бұрын
Hi Jan, Nice to hear from you! Iv've travelled many times in Spain and nowadays even more since I live in the country. Did twice de Ruta de la Plata itinerary from Oviedo (Asturias) to Sevilla (Andalucía). Around 1100 km. I really recommend it as almost the two parts of the route is on a national with no cars (N-630) having the Spaniards built two motorways along the same itinerary. Also did twice Malaga (andalucía)-Jaca (Aragon). A great route! I recommend not to do the Santiago de compostela peregrinage: it's too busy. If pepole like empty and wild mountains, Pyrenees in Aragon and Navarra are great (wheter gravel or speed bike). In my case, I am crossing this winter from Paraguay to Uruguay. Best regards, P.F.

Awesome! I'm just thinking to do the route from Italy to Georgia next year, following more or less the same route: first along the Drua and then the Adriatic coast and to Istambul. I'm a bit afraid of Turkey roads. But this piece is just what I want to initiate with.

First of all I congratulate you on this wonderful trip.The images are beautiful.With such tiredness, they go back to get the camera.Troublesome.I want to do this tour too.If you can answer me I would like to ask you a few questions.I am an elder who has been on a bike for years: -)) (61).Can I buy an e bike from Germany and make this tour?Will E bike be a problem in country borders?Could an expensive bike pose a safety problem along the way?How much do you need to allocate a budget to include stays along the way.Which country is the most dangerous and need attention.Have you had a bad experience?once again asking for sure.Is there any procedure for electric bicycles at border gates?Thank you for your answers and kindness.
@UziLutzi4 жыл бұрын
E-bikes are everywhere in Germany and I don't think they are a problem at borders, certainly a normal bike was no problem. I would say the bike was safe anywhere I went, often I could even take it inside somewhere and costs for stay ranged from 4€ hostels to around 40€ for some apartments (in October). I never felt unsafe but apart from Turkey Kosovo actually had the busiest roads.

If you considering cycling in Europe it is safe. Accommodation airbnb average around €50/night.Food can also get a bit expensive in some European countries. So budget around €15/day minimum

amazing...Simply amazing. I't would have been fun to get your review of this trip, how many punctures, mecanical failures or other problems so that we can all be aware of it. Where did you sleep ? i guess in a tent..where ? along the road ?
@janlukasaugustin5375 жыл бұрын
I was incredibly lucky I guess: I did not even inflate my tyres for the whole trip! :D The only technical issue I had was a brake cable that snapped and my chain making some funny jumps every now and then which caused me to buy and carry a spare chain which I ended up not using. I was not carrying a tent actually, always slept in hostels or apartments which is no problem along that route.

Great video Jan, thanks. Did you camp every night or stay at guest houses etc? Which time of year was it? I imagine that Croatia is too hot for cycling in summer?
@UziLutzi4 жыл бұрын
It was October. So I was lucky especially when crossing the alps. In Croatia it was perfect because of the relatively empty roads and guest houses or hostels I stayed in.

You ride fast! an average of about 20 km/hr? how do you do that? I'm only doing closer to 14 km/hr (ca. 20 kg of luggage + water + fuel + handlebar bag) Great video! How much did you prepare your route in adance? did you put your planned route in GPS for navigation?
@janlukasaugustin5375 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am glad you like such tours as well as my video. I had prepared for and finished an Ironman two months before I started, I am sure that helped regarding the average speed. My equipment including the bike and not counting food and water was 34kg. I only had a rough idea of which route I wanted to take and then just planned from day to day using Komoot and Google Maps. In countries like Croatia you don't really have too many choices anyways. I was lucky enough to have rather empty streets since it was already low season there.
@erikl.18605 жыл бұрын
@@janlukasaugustin537 thanks Jan Lukas, for your reply! If you did not make a plan in advance, but plan day by day using Komoot, then you will have to connect to the internet everyday? Were you using Komoot on your computer to connect to the internet, plan your route for the day, and then upload to your GPS or phone to help you navigate the planned tour? I also have Komoot (premium now), but only use it to prepare my routes (1000-2000 km) at home. Then I cut the route in smaller pieces (70-90 km) and put these on my Garmin before I leave for the trip. Garmin can not handle long routes. I like Komoot a lot, and would love to use it for navigation, but I am afraid that using my iPhone for navigation will use far too much power when the screen is on during the whole day. I do have a dynamo on my bike, to charge a 10000 powerbank, which I then use to charge my GPS. That works fine. (one powerbank connected to my Garmin, and another powerbank being charged from my dynamo at the same time). I would love to hear how you use Komoot for planning, and how you do your daily navigation. Thanks.
