Jupiter from Holst's Planet Suite arranged and performed live by John Beesley on Yamaha Genos connected to V-Console. This is a live performance with no pre-recorded elements. All the sounds are coming from the Genos keyboard played through the V-Console available from genosmagic.com. The detailed orchestration and quick sound changes are made possible by V-Console. Registration preset changes are triggered by a foot switch. Voice parts can be zoned to play from anywhere on the keyboard and individual notes can be re-mapped for each voice part, allowing on key to play complete chords voiced according to the original orchestral score.

"Bravo Maestro", Mr Beesley!! A simply astounding and commanding performance of one of my personal favourites, "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from Holst's brilliant "Planets Suite"... played on my Tyros 5's NEXT gen arranger, the Yamaha Genos. I modestly recon I've almost nailed the "I Vow to Thee.." section - but it might be a while 'till I get the remainder even close! Thank you for your inspiration, non-the-less!

Triple amazing stuff! Excellent finger settings. Beautiful sound selections. Supported well by the V-console. (For me unreachable) upper class! Respect.

Yes. "Bravo Maestro", Mr Beesley!! A simply astounding performance of one of my personal favourites, "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from Holst's brilliant "Planets Suite"... played on my Tyros 5's next gen arranger, the Yamaha Genos. To request that you next perform "Mars, the Bringer of War" would be a bit cheeky of me.... but, er, could you? Come to think of it, would the keyboard survive such (musical) violence? 😉

I'm not sure which I'm more impressed with, your playing or your programming ability. How many registrations did you go through for that piece? I figured 70 some of so, but I lost count. Truly amazing stuff.

I can see now everything is attainable now, in general do you think V-Console can get synced with Yamaha MFC10 with 12 foot buttons?

Very well played. HOWEVER, there is a big problem with this instrument, and indeed all of the Yamaha arranger machines. Listen closely to the END of each note. The sound is cut off far too quickly and this is because the generator cuts off each note (except keyboard and guitar/harp sustain sounds) so there is no decay/release at all. This gives the game away and ruins what otherwise woould be a very convincing set of instruments. On my PS975 I can alleviate this by assigning the live function to extend the "release" portion of the ASDR envelope, but I think you can only do this when recording track by track. I don't think you can do this to multi layered sounds played live. This affects brass sounds more than others. You can clearly hear the end of notes being artificially cut right off so that there is no ambient fall off at all, even with reverb added. This one flaw in the Yamaha series exposes a really poor decision by the engineers who seem to be lacking in musicality on this issue. If you edit the sounds with the live controls you can make the quick brass passages so much more convincing by adding a touch of release, so the note doesn't suddenly cut. Too long a release is as bad as no release at all. The sweet spot is to add a tiny bit of release, so the notes don't sound like they are artificially cut. Also, unless you want a deliberate crescendo, a lot of the brass sounds crecendo on EVERY note, and again this is a weakness in the PS/Genos system, The Horn passage reveals this weakness more than any other instruments. Brass players do not cut off each note abruptly, even when playing quite short notes. Though subtle, each note is slightly faded before the next is played. But on your demo (which is not your fault at all), the loud horn passage sounds really off because each note end sounds like someone artificially cut off each note before it was properly finished. It is hard to explain precisely but once you hear it, it can drive you nuts.
