Listening to Xabier at Operalia this year was stunning to me. Not only was I surprised the voice in this video (which is beautiful) made it into the competition but extremely surprised at how far his voice had grown and polished in the past two years!!! Bravo to Xabier. Oh, and it is obvious he took JDF’s advice and made it his own. Bravo.

QUE BELLA VOZ DE ESTE JOVEN TENOR!!!!. El 80 por ciento de los jóvenes tenores entre 20 y 30 años son ligeros.. el verdadero ligero se ve a partir de los 45 años...despues de haber pasado un largo camino.... conservar la tesitura de tenor ligero no es fácil, depende de la buena tecnica, un repertorio adecuado, y no abusar de ciertas notas. FELICITACIONES !!!!

Coughman hallo, powerful means Not nice, but Flórez Voice is bright, clear and elegant, His Legato and phrazing, unique His technic and His high Notes are amazing, that makes the difference, much other Tenores sings without feeling of that what is necessary

Nowadays we don't own the technique real Opera singers had. Unfortunately this small, clear, healthy voice is not the one of the greatest... His voice is not powerful is just bright and it really needs a mic to go along. If you study the meaning and the history of Opera singing we will end up with a result that is not being shown to us by this particular type of singing. It's not bad at all... it is elegant, beautiful, healthy, clear, inspiring but it's not classic Opera Singing. This is a new singing style not intended for the roles classic composers wrote. And if you think I'm completely wrong it's okay I thought it myself too before doing my research.
