This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The original story was written as a graphic novel by Alan Moore (a genius). The novel was written during the Thatcher years and satirises her attitude to the lower and working classes. The fifth of November is called bombfire night here and we celebrate the successful execution of the last man to enter the houses of parliament with honest intent. It was 1605 and Fawkes was a god-obsessed catholic who hoped to blow up the protestant government and king and trigger England to revert to catholicism. Examples are The Villain, The Voice, Victims, Vaudeville, etc. I think there area a total of 36 chapters, all with "V" titles. Also, it's sort of mentioned in the movie but something I remember from the comic - the use of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. In Roman numerals the number 5 is "V", in Morse code the letter "V" is dot-dot-dot-dash. In Beethoven's FIFTH Symphony the famous opening passage is "da-da-da-duummm". Whoa.

@@Kernwadi Violent rioters and race-baiters who associate with BLM movement might represent an extreme ideology, but sadly that is not the case this movie represents. This movie is about powerful governments and stoking fear in the majority , not minorities seeking anarchist and violent retribution for past wrongs. There are not many examples in popular media on the 2nd case, and certainly not in the present context (imagine someone making a series where black people do a violent revolt and kill whites). That is because that will be considered an act of fear-mongering against minorities (and it will be IMO). One example I can give you to placate your narrative is Attack on Titan anime. Although you need to sit through 62 episodes to reach this point, the show makes a case where erstwhile cruel rulers are now in the minority and powerless, and the oppressed of past have now taken over and become oppressors Regardless of the political side, you are on, V for Vendetta is undoubtedly about powerful government stoking fear in the majority to turn against minorities and foreigners. The movie's antagonist also has several parallels with Hitler in terms of imagery. So I guess you would be foolish to assume V for Vendetta is commentary on BLM or groups like that. It is a clear rebuttal of big, majoritarian governments like in USA, India, Russia, Turkey and Brazil (and obviously the U.K at the time of movie filming ) etc....
@tanmaysinghal81634 жыл бұрын
@@Kernwadi The movie was never supposed to resemble present. It just takes some red flags from today and makes them into a full dystopian alt-reality. Same way, your dystopia can be true too, even though it is more unlikely. That does not mean people who seek political parallels between this world and our are somehow wrong. In fact, that was most likely the intention of the creator, to portray current day wrongs set in dystopian future

Putting Hugo Weaving behind the mask was a genius move. Matrix was so big that I remember during the Elrond scenes in Lord of the Rings, there were people in the cinema muttering "Mr. Anderson" after every Elrond line. Indeed, "5" and "V" are represented throughout the film (e.g. Creedy's gunmen are in the shape of a "V" when they shoot him; when Creedy shoots him, he only uses 5 bullets as the 6th chamber was empty). Guy Fawkes Day is November (the only month with a "V" in it) the 5th (obvious "5").

The 5th November is a British Holiday that takes place every year. It is usually reffered too as either Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night. It was the date when Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament, and it was originally conceived as a celebration of the failed assassination attempt. It is celebrated with Fireworks and Bonfires.

@EnigmaTimGaming4 жыл бұрын
Awesome reaction. I can understand you not knowing the relevance of the 5th of November rhyme, it references an event from 1605. Guy Fawkes was a member of a Catholic plot to blow up parliament and try and reinstate Catholic rule in England. He was caught and since then November 5th has been 'Firework night' in the UK. Traditionally a 'Guy' is burned on a bonfire, a straw effigy of guy Fawkes. This film really hits home in 2020, it's a modern '1984'. Some of the things in this film are already happening in democratic society, like the US and UK. I could fairly confidently predict that if we continue down the darker paths our counties have stepped on the last few years then this film will become something more akin to a documentary. I hate to bring politics into things, but alas this film cries out for it; imagine if someone who had Trumps beliefs and ideologies actually had the intelligence, power and Charisma of the leader depicted by John Hurt, would America be so different? The same can be said here in the UK, the government of the last few years has really taken a few steps each year towards nationalism and stepping ever further to the right. It saddens me because I saw this film when it first came out and even then it had a slight air of familiarity about it but as the years have progressed it has only gotten worse. BTW the hacktivist group Anonymous, although having been around longer than the film have used the V mask as their symbol since this films release. Indeed that symbol has been a sign of activism and not necessarily anti-government but definitely anti-authoritarian ideologies, which is where the West is leaning further and further each year.

Have always loved this film and never understood why it wasn't more popular. Alan Moore has written many interesting stories. The concept of "power" in its different forms, and it's application... How, when, where, who against, by whom, for good, for bad, is there a difference... Plays into his writing frequently. The movie adaptations of his work do a decent job of translating them, but are shallow glimpses of the work. As an example... The Watchmen graphic novel was much more critical of vigilantism and the idea of super heros as an inspirational ideal... It was also more gritty and grounded in the depiction of violence. The man is an interesting character to say the least.

He gets a bad rep for the most part but he is definitely opinionated and comes across as quite miserable. We even had him in the shop for multiple signings during my time there. If anyone is interested the shop is called Close Encounters and is regarded as one of the greatest independent comic book shops in the U.K and have their own yearly comic-con called NICE, held in Bedford just up the road from Northampton.

So glad you got around to this one Brandon, such a cool movie. The mask and style of V is based around a dude called Guy Fawkes who was part of the 1605 gunpowder plot (along with some other guys) to blow up the House of Parliament in London. In England, every 5th of November we have a thing called Fireworks Night, where aside from attending fireworks displays, it's traditional to burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire .. as weird as that sounds .. in a way to almost laugh at his dissension to bring down English democracy. Obviously this kinda gets turned on its head in the movie, but it's pretty interesting how his image and spirit is used as a way to fuse the past with the future, and something that inspired both the Anonymous organisation and things like the Million Mask Marches that still happen around the world. As a side note, I found it pretty interesting when you mentioned that Evie had been reborn into a version of V .. when we first see her in her cell, looking from the top down, she's even in a fetal position! Anyways, great reaction as always mate .. looking forward to the next one.
