I love it when Taehyung intentionally tries to overshadow the timbre and then returns to a different key simply to play with the music, like a mischievous friend. When it comes to Taehyung's voice and and musical/singing ability I'm always extremely cautious because honestly you're not looking at a linear landscape. His artistry truly resembles the paintings and technique of Vincent Van Gogh...sequences repeated yet never the same, the realism of the dream, the transfiguration of the identity of each element. You see the reality but which one? The enigma of the artist who challenges you because he is challenging himself and the connection he feels towards his surroundings. Too often I read: "he is a genius", perhaps used for frivolous things. The fact is that THESE are the situations in which you really see and touch his genius. One more word. Thanks Taehyung for this "brush stroke" 🩷

The song itself is very clear -- V wants to end the friend zone status and progress to a more romantic relationship. The video -- well, that's a fun filled doozy! To me, V's smirk in the end says "Analyze that!" And our brains will get twisted into pretzels and we still won't know for sure, just the way V intended. Haha!

When looking at the lyrics by itself, you can probably note that the song is talking about getting out of the friendzone. When you obviously feel chemistry and attraction towards a friend and the other person reciprocates these feeling the lyrics are calling that person out, to just come forward and admit they like you as more than a friend. When looking at the lyrics with the video you could get like 3 other meanings. First meaning could be, life is too short so just shoot your shot with someone you like. You be damned if you don't and you be damned if you didn't so might as well take a chance. The second meaning comes from that last scene, like you said it could be interpreted as loving oneself before you give yourself to someone else. Relationships always look perfect when you are someone outside looking in. But once you are in a relationship you tend to notice other people's relationship and compare it to your relationship, but no one sees what happens behind closed doors. The last interpretation is also from the last scene, where Tae is seen with two of him. He could have created two of himself to see if in two dimensions, he still dies, and he always does, it's his fate. But he still tries to be with the one he loves, but he is fated to die.

So many theories, one I haven't heard yet is this one: So in the beginning he is angry/sad about being alone when everyone can have loving relationships, then he dies not experiencing the love he wants, and everyone else doesn't care about his suffering. Then when he is in a happy relationship everyone else is angry and then when he dies again no one cares except that person and he smiles. Very much mirroring his experience as his public life making it hard/ scary to be in a relationship when knowing (stupid) people will be mad about it yet they themselves can be in a relationship etc. And in the end you only have yourself, so you should love yourself. Anyway, all the theories are so cool and it might not actually be that deep 😂 I just love the song so much! I still can't get over how he manipulates his voice so much! Just beautiful.

My interpretation… perhaps both the lonely life and the ‘ideal life’ end up the same way… not real, a fantasy, with the same result he still dies. The third time he awakes is reality, (with himself? , a twin? The second him representing a male figure a symbol of a male lover?) is when he’s happy. Basically be true to yourself and be your authentic self which is also loving oneself. The teaser images and the all the representation in the video also not only beautifully representative but also so Tae. The song is self explanatory as he explained it saying it’s a confession song portraying wanting the friends period to be over to be something more… the start of a relationship. i’m not the brain part of armys so i wouldn’t call this a theory but rather my own interpretation ig? the whole song is structured around 2 possible scenarios (based around the feelings & worries of v in the mv): the 1st in which tae(in the mv) has feelings for his frnd but doesn’t take the choice of pursuing a relationship, which leads him to drown in loneliness, longing & noticing more the love of other couples around him in a way that feels suffocating/irritating bc it’s a continuous reminder of what he wishes for but can’t get or is afraid of trying to get despite reaching the point of feeling tired of pretending &/or suppressing his feelings. the second scenario is different, he has the relationship he wanted & everything’s going fine for now, but all the couples around him (that symbolised love & his wish 4 a relationship in the 1st scenario) are now fighting/arguing. I personally see this as a depiction of one of his possible fears in case he takes this choice? He fears that once they are indeed in a relationship, it could also bring arguments/fights (which to a degree are normal tbh) that he may not be ready for or used to in their old dynamic of friendship. another possible fear that may be blocking him from taking the risk & getting into the relationship (beside rejection lol) in the 1st scenario may be the fear that if things don’t wrk out in the end in the relationship, it may be impossible for them to go back to just their friendship & he feels like it’s too much of a risk/loss to gamble for? additionally, in the second scenario, when he gets asphalted by the car, he’s not alone in his last moments bc (compared to the 1st scenario) being in a relationship would defeat his loneliness, but it would also bring the risk of trauma/pain/grief to his partner in case smth would ever happen to him (which again is not very nice but ultimately also kinda normal & part of life,unfortunately). in the conclusion there are 2 tae’s, 2 versions that took 2 different choices that in his head, could possibly lead to scenario 1 or 2 but as the video finishes he breaks the 4th wall & looks at the viewer while smiling which leads me to believe that a 3rd happier scenario is possible but up to the viewer’s imagination? or as others (smart af armys xd) have come up w/, it also could be a msg of self-love, which i really like personally! again, this is just some surface level rambling that i came up w/ after watching the mv & needing some kind of explanation for the plot to not go insane so i understand if it doesn’t make much sense to some lmao
