Way too slow and meccanico for me. If you listen to Glass himself play it he plays with much more freedom, rubato, and speed. Glass plays this piece in 3:30 whereas it takes this pianist 5:50. I get the tendency in minimalism to gravitate to longer, drawn out structures, but this is Feldman-esque postmodernism interpretation.

@@CharlesZoll Very interesting, I will make a point to look up Glass' version. Admittedly, I am less accustomed to music from later periods of "Classical" music, so I should really develop my ear more in that area. I sincerely appreciate the insight. I discovered this piece after watching a ballet that was set to it, so I wasn't really listening "pure." But your thoughtful commentary inspired me to look into more versions.

At first this video popped up, I was like, who is this guy, bad composure playing the piano sticking his neck out, he is out to get himself some spinal pain in the neck, and what is wrong with the music, why is it so slow and not changing, but as soon as his right hand hit the fist note, suddenly I was dragged into this psychedelic outta space, or feeling stuck in time or dream or something, I found myself kept listening after several minutes, and obsessively searching for Philip Glass in the next few days, buying his etude book, begging to play his piece, sharing his Video. That is what a as-if digitally multi-tracked thoughtfully composed music adding full acoustic music instrument’s flavor can do to modern listeners .
