Pulavar’s joke reminds me of a real episode that happened in Kenya. As GM, I am supposed to sanction the loan and leave applications of my employees. One employee wanted loan for the burial expenses of his dead mother. While processing I suddenly remembered the employee having obtained a loan in the previous month for the same reason. I summoned him for an explanation. He explained that the mother died in the previous month was his third mother and the present dead mother was his own. Then I asked him how many mothers he had. His answer shocked me to the core. He said his father was married to seven women and he had 27 siblings and he was not aware of the names of some of his brothers and sisters. Then I asked him to ask his father to meet me. He started crying and knelt down and begged me not to complain to his father. I consoled him saying ‘ we in India get married to one woman and face such a problem that I wanted to know from his father what his father eats which we Indians don’t eat’.
