Sorry if my englisch is not so good im from germany. But here are some important basics about batterys and electricity. Spoiler: With 2 x NPF on a adapter you dont get more capacity only more Voltage and Wh If you have a V Mount Battery you have 4 cells in it. A NPF Battery have 2 cells per battery. So to achieve the 14V of V Mount Batterys vou have to put the cells of the NPF Batterys in a row because every cell have 3.2V V Mount 4x3.2V -> 14.8V NPF 2x3.2V -> 7.4V 2xNPF on Adapter 2x7.4V -> 14.8V BUT if you put two cells in a row to get more voltage you dont count all Amps of the cells together. In the V Mount battery vou have 4 cells with 6Ah (6 cells x 6Ah -> 6Ah!) Same with NPF (2 cells x 4400mAh -> 4400mAh). If you put these two NPF Batterys on a adapter to get higher voltage you put the cells in a row (2 x 2 Cells) and get the same result. Higher voltage at the same capacity 1Ah -> 1000mAh 6Ah -> 6000mAh 4400mAh -> 4.4Ah And why your light isnt running at 100% with the npf batterys on the adapter is caused by the watts per hour that you can get out of the batterys. You can get ghese Wh by multiply Amps per hour by Volts (Ah x V -> Wh) For example with V Mount battery: 6Ah x 14.8V -> 88.9Wh 1 Npf Battery: 4.4Ah x 7.4V -> 33.76Wh 2 Npf on a adapter: 4.4Ah x 14.8V -> 65.56Wh There you can see that 2 Npf batterys dont have as much power as the VMounts. That is one of the facts why VMounts are more expensive. Not of the capacity but the Voltage and the Watt per Hour. You can also look on your light how much Wh it needs!

when you combine the two npfs, you are doubling the voltage, you don't double the amps also,. 2 x 4400mah 7v, becomes 14v 44000mah

Excellent video. Very informative. However, when comparing the total amount of energy stored in a battery, one should not just look at how much mAh there is, because the voltages may be different. One should rather should look at how much Wh there is, which is a function of voltage times ampere hour. The NPF battery provides around 32.6Wh. So two of these will provide around 65Wh,, which is about two thirds of the V-mount battery(95Wh). And this is consistent with what you concluded.

Andoer NP-F to V-Mount Battery Converter Adapter Plate with Dual Slot аккумуляторы Sony 7 вольт соединены последовательно получим 14 вольт 32 Wh

im about to build a fx3 rig with this and a newer vmount plate, instead of spending 14 0 on battery and 60 on plate im spending 80 on 4 npf970 and 60 on plate and 20 on this dual adpater which also lets u hot swap

does it work by connecting the NP-F Battery with usb c to usb c camera port? without internal camera battery and if i have dual NP-F battery plates and connecting to camera wound't it fry the camera since it has more Volts than what camera needs

For me it was a quite process to finally get a v-mount battery. Bulky, pricey, plate needed etc. But the dealmaker was at the end the multitude of connections and the stability of power delivery. So I power my camera, an Atomos Ninja, and a field recorder from the same source. Sure, that all would work with NPF plus an USB powerbank. And more stuff to mount, more batteries to take care of. So got one rig that can be quite effortless equipped with another body, a battery that is not flimsy and provides a solid base to stabilize on the torso. Not to mention the faster charging.

Well, the trouble with those NP-F batteries is that the 'charger' (usually a shitty, non-compliant unsafe thingy that heats up significantly) you get with them is a very slow 600 mA max power supply that hardly does anything else than just applying voltage to the battery and limiting the current as long as the voltage is below the maximum output voltage of the charger. As soon as the current starts to drop to a certain level, the green LED will light. The 6600 mAh Swit batteries I have, took just way too long with that charger ánd the charger jut got incredibly hot. I now charge them with a 'electric bike' charger I bought at a battery store. At least that charger is able to pump 3 Amps into those batteries and stops at around 8 Volts total: if I leave the battery on longer, it will go up to the full 8,4 Volt, but that will strain the cells and limit their lifetime more if you don't use them right away. But I second you on the rest. I always have a kind of a laugh when I see all those people with a DSLR with either it's own battery or powered via a powerbank (and oh yeah, the powerbank needs to be CHEAP after spending a fortune on all the other accesoires), an audiorecorder either powered via its own battery or external power by an external battery, a monitor and light and they also need their own dedicated battery, compared to a videocamera where you just click on the battery and have one, two or even more D-tap outputs for accesoires, just requiring a cable to get to your accessory.

The most efficient and cost effective solution is to get a dummy battery with has support for USB-C PD protocol and power it using power banks. They can be charged fast and are relatively inexpensive. You can even have 2 or 3 and power your monitor, camera and other accessories at the same time.

Thanks for the comparison, I am also considering the option of v mount vs npf, you bring up some good points but bottom line being price it’s hard to see value in changing especially if one already has a few NPF batteries lying around.

I am using a small rig npf converter and I can power the camera via usb-c and the monitor (12V). I use the largest NPF batteries, the ones that can be charged via USB also. V-mount batteries have gone down in price so if I started today I would by them first. But NPF have been a nice flexible solution.

I want to use the same power supply for my camera and my monitor (my monitor only has DC 8.4v input and the USB C 5v, I can't use the DC 7V input because my camera is using it with a dummy battery) what kind of batteries would you recommend?

Nice video, I use two Duracell Np Batteries.(DRSF970 7800Ah 56.1Wh) These will power my camcorder PXW-X70 4K, Monitor Viltrox 9" and Zoom H8 for a full day with plenty power to spare. Batteries cost me €40 each.
