Hi jonas, First of all, thank you very much for your highly insightful videos. The content of your videos, compared to many other channels, is always refreshing and informative. The only thing I would wish for in your videos is, especially when it comes to materials, to show examples using the Slate Material Editor. Otherwise, it can be very difficult to follow along or resolve issues if one doesn’t really use or is unfamiliar with the Compact Material Editor. I hope it might be possible to consider this feedback at some point. Please don't take it as critisism and keep up you good work!
@JonasNoell2 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for the feedback. I normally use the slate editor whenever the shading gets a bit more complex. But in this case I felt it is very simple so I normally use the Compact Editor as the Slate Editor takes away too much real estate on the screen which is limited

Great technique ! The only difficulty for me is that I do not use this material editor. I used to use slate one which is also a standard for Unreal Engine (all nodes are visible).
@JonasNoellАй бұрын
I use that also whenever the setup gets a bit more complex, but I think in this case its fairly simple. Actually the classic editor has many advantages compared to the node editor and it is so much faster to use and handle a lot of materials.

It's amazing tutorial! thank u for that Can u talk about how dome geometry was made? i'm trying to reproduce, but the ground got some kind of distortion... I'm going to try to support your Patreon channel next month and catch the full scene... but I wanted to try it myself first
@chrisrose77Ай бұрын
Did you figure this out? I'm having the same issue.
@caiocraveroАй бұрын
@chrisrose77 You need to apply a UVW Map modifier as spherical mode to the dome to have the ground correctly mapped.
@chrisrose77Ай бұрын
@@caiocravero Thanks! I'll give that a go.
@mateuszswierkowski7936Ай бұрын
Just wondering. Could you use this workflow on a tracked camera footage to match light better instead of of using just hdri?
@JonasNoellАй бұрын
Not sure what you mean exactly. This workflow requires spherical mapping inputs, so I assume your camera footage is not compatible.
@JstMstАй бұрын
I wonder if it can be used for product scenes as well? Or would the dome technique be good only for outdoor areas?
@JonasNoellАй бұрын
Can be used in the same way but if you have an interior hdri then normally in there is quite close to the camera so you may see distortions as you are just mapping the image on a simple dome geometry. The dome approach works best if the environment in the hdri are far away like for example on a big parking lot or something similar
@JstMstАй бұрын
@@JonasNoell Thank you for your answer. I understood what you meant very clearly. Then you had an old tutorial video for the product. You did it with a chair as an example. I will try to create a scene with that kind of background and lighting. I wish you a good day.

@@JonasNoellWhat is really awesome about your tutorials is this: looking through some KZbin tuts, just saw a tut of yours "V-Ray | How to FAKE a SUN | CHEATING atmospheric effects using ANIMATED TEXTURES" and I can say that you already have done it, at time 24:30! I'll use your bending technique and try to make the refracted "sundogs" effect with some comping at post! Thank you once again!

@ Haha that’s why I said ‘natively’ it’s not possible but with using some creative techniques you can achieve pretty much anything 😀 Happy to hear it was useful in your case, even though in this tutorial it was a different use case. But that’s what makes you pro, being able to adapt and combine different techniques to reach the required task. 👍

It shows the process of doing so in the end. You basically just need to update the HDRI in 2 places and adjust the color of the floor, but it’s quite a simple process

Seriously Jonas, I've been following you for a number of years (always telling you you can date my sister) but honestly, how do you figure these techniques out? Is it just intuition and years of understanding all the mechanics of V-Ray or you just things you also uncover overtime? I'm seriously impressed by your ability to discover all these amazing techniques? Also, one last question. In all of your tutorials (including this one) from here on out have ACES on by default or no?
@JonasNoell2 ай бұрын
It’s basically just trying to find ways to optimize a workflow and also taking inspiration of other things that I see in tutorials for other software and so on. Normally my tutorials don’t use Aces by default as it would complicate each tutorial a bit. But Aces can be easily added by using the workflow that I showed in my Aces tutorials
