Very valuable info! Never saw technique like this ! Thank you! I wonder will it be faster than HDRI only?
@JonasNoell3 жыл бұрын
It's hard to generalize rendertime as it depends on many different factors such as the resolution of your hdri, contrast and so on. In general the sun+sky system is more flexible compared to hdri approach where you have to take the hdri as it is. Anyway it's an additional option in your toolbox, it's not meant to replace hdri only lighting as both have their strenghts :)

You can pipe the sky through a color correction or composite to tint it to whatever you like.

Hey Jonas, is it possible to work in slite material option. It's easier to see how does all the material work together. Thanks :)

Yeah in many later videos I use Slate whenever I think the shader becomes complex enough to justify covering the whole screen with the Material Editor :-)

Nice one! Is there a reason why the sun's position in the viewport does not correspond to the position in the render? Not by much but it is noticable.
@JonasNoell4 жыл бұрын
Yes, because the sun you see in the rendering is infinitely far away and rendered on the V-Ray sky environment map, other than the V-Ray sun you see in the viewport which has a physical location much closer to the camera. If you move it further away from the camera in your scene the differences will become smaller :)

Hi, first of all you did amazing work by adding this tutorial. I have one problem with vray sky. I tried everything but still can't get as blue sky as yours. I have added color correction to vray sky but it still doesn't work like in your model. Can you tell me how to fix it or can you make a tutorial how to make that sky? Thank you so much :)
@JonasNoell2 жыл бұрын
You could try using a wider lense, if you are zoomed in too much on the sun it's hard to see the blue parts of the sky
@piotrforkasiewicz20253 жыл бұрын
Thank You very much for Your tutorial. I just switched to Vray5 up2.1 - do they changed the name of that improved sky/sun to PRG sky model?? Weird since when I switch between the sky models there are no big difference between CIE and PRG. You have very realistic result here. Can't achieve anything like that in new vray5 2.1.
@JonasNoell3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes as far as I know the name was changed in later versions. When I made the video its name was still "Improved Sun/Sky". I would need to check if anything changed in 5.2 but i guess it should be the same. I possibly added some colorcorrection on the sky if I remember correctly, so that maybe could help!

Hi i try to add bloom and glare for sun, but it's still sharp, like a circle, not like yours. i use vray next Could you give me some guide Thanks for sharing :)
@JonasNoell2 жыл бұрын
Try to use only bloom and see if you get a soft appearance then slowly add glare little by little until you get the result you want. Glare sometimes creates these very sharp circles when you have extremely bright objects

Hi , My English is not very good. Did you use a plugin for clouds?I would appreciate if you tell me how you did the cloud trick
@JonasNoell2 жыл бұрын
I think I showed it in the video or? Just generate a mask from the HDRI and use a composite to put them on top of the sky. Anyway, in V-Ray 6 you will have clouds for the V-Ray sky, so no need for this trick anymore...

Hello, thank you very much. I usually use the VRaySky on a VRay Dome instead of the Environment Map, do you think it is a good option?
@JonasNoell4 жыл бұрын
Hi, while for HDRI maps that is very important because of Multi Importance Sampling (MIS) in case of the V-Ray Sky with V-Ray Sun it is not really necessary in my opinion because the direct illumination comes mainly from the V-Ray Sun. But you can do it like this, you will get identical result, quality and speed in my testing. Your Lighting and GI Renderelement will look slightly different in both options though. Also for some reason when using the Dome Light the Sun doesn't really show up, so you need to make the Dome Light invisible and still use the V-Ray Sky in the environment. So all in all I think it's easier to just use it the environment and not use a domelight at all in this case, unless you need your renderelements split up in a specific way :)
Very nice tutorial , Thanks for the tricks really New & very helpful This Water is actually Epic .. can you post a tutorial how to make this very cool Realistic Water material, please ?

Hi bro, I would ask how can you see all changes you are doing in real-time on that `frame buffer window`! I am using 3ds Max 2021 with V-ray5, just like you, but mine doesn't seem to have this function. For example, when you rise the sun or change its position, you can simultaneously see its result in that buffer window before rendering, how is that possible? Could you please explain? Thanks a lot !
@JonasNoell3 жыл бұрын
You need to use interactive rendering by pressing the little teapot with the green play button in the upper right corner.

Hey, great tut, never too old to learn something. How did you get the sky so blue?
@JonasNoell3 жыл бұрын
I would need to go back and check, but the sky is just a generated texture, so you can pipe it through a colorcorrection node or mix in some blue through a composite or something like this....
