Rod recently had the opportunity to sit with Alessia Faverio and Bruce Poacher from Epic Kayaks to discuss the new V10 Gen 4 Surfski. The V10 is a legendary surfski, and it's exciting to hear all about the changes and features of the latest iteration!
If you've seen our videos, you know that Barry learned to paddle surfski in a Gen 1 V10, a fast and tippy race boat (this video may or may not contain some amusing Gen 1 remount footage), so we really have a fondness for the V10 and for Epic surfskis. We're looking forward to test driving the new, more stable-but-still-fast Gen 4 version.

Great video. In my opinion, the first generation V10 is very fast and the V14 is only slightly less stable than that first generation V10. Epic Kayaks / Surfskis are great boats and their range of boats is very helpful to get more people into the sport.

Test paddled a V10 today for about 55minutes, was my second ever ski paddle, the first being about 25 minutes in a V9 - I did paddle a K1 masters for a couple of years and paddle sea kayaks in pretty rough water a lot. Felt very stable, accelerated really fast and caught even small runners with ease. Seemed like it had a little bit of tippyness from vertical out to about 10 degrees off vertical, where it sat without almost any input. There was a really noticable "catch" at about 20 degrees off vertical where it really felt like it didn't want to tip much beyond that at all, even leaning out to see if it would go over. Loved it and will be getting one in about 6 weeks when the next container arrives in Aus!! Cannot wait to take it downwind!

It’s in the stable now. Haven’t been outside yet as my paddling mates are not enjoying winter on the water that much. So mostly in the harbour with wind waves to about 30cm. Lots of crosswinds, ranging from 15 to 27kts. Felt a bit dicey at times but no ins yet. Love the speed of the boat even into the wind. Putting it onto the Amarok is just a little bit different to a 26kg expedition boat…..

ive paddled the V10 Gen 4numerous times over the past month . great ski, i have had my V9 Elite for 2 1/2 years and the new V10 is as stable , but more nimble, great acceleration, loves to catch any runners from boat wake to surf. It will be my new go to ski for all conditions. (Note : i am associated with Epic Australia)

Good to hear, thanks for sharing your experience with the new V10. We found the V9 to be pretty nimble, so it's exciting that the Gen 4 V10 is even more so.

Quite bizarre talk about the history of the V10 and not even a hint of a mention of the name Oscar C or that it was him that won the Molokai in the original V10?? No hard feelings then?

No hard feelings and no disrespect was intended. Oscar is a legend.

I have an Epic V10 g3. Great all-around ski, but for dedicated downwind I feel like it missed the mark a bit. I would love to have the changes they made to the g4. Shorter, more rocker and a little wider to make up for the seat height. Even so, will it compare to the Vega Flex? One other ski with a reputation for downwind I've surprisingly never heard you guys mention on the channel is the Swordfish S. I picked one up and am really enjoying it!

It would be fun to get a g4 for a good downwind run to compare to the Vega Flex...the Vega Flex is a tough downwind boat to beat, though. We haven't had the chance to paddle the Swordfish S...but we'd love to try some Fenn boats in the future.
