This type of bore/stroke ratio was what I had in mind for my V12 build. Since a V12 doesn't have to rev as high as a V8 to match the same [ cylinder firing/time ] ratio, it seems that by building a shorter stroke V12 that could push the Torque & HP peaks up higher, you could build a motor that performs like a V8 @ 10,000 RPMs that only needs to run at 8,000! Numbers are used as examples, not to be taken literally as exact calculations! The advantage here is that you are not pushing the V12 motor past the limitations of an under head, push rod design!

That's a good point @sparkimoto

On the surface, that sounds great, but with a V12 like that come more headaches, like, for instance torsional crankshaft twist, more valvetrain harmonics, etc ... it's not so much a question of RPM either ... Plus, this is a one off build made by one company and while it is very cool, who do you go to for parts? Them and they got you by the short hairs on price ... not to mention the headaches and fab that it takes to get it into the car. While cool, not very practical from any standpoint.

Gday V12LS I know you blokes specialise mainly in LS design V12s but I wonder if playing around with the old aussie Holden V8 and turning THAT into a V12 also would be out of the question down the track? A place called Torque power cast their own Holden blocks both for big cubes and for factory 5ltr displacement and I've heard that the Holden heads have superior head design (from the VN onward) with port layout and 6 degree valves.. Would 12 cylinders benefit from that more so than a V8 might? One can only wonder.. 🤞

I read that the LS V8 engine is light compared to V12 engines ( of the old day ? ). I would like to see power per weight in comparison to a modern V12 like the one from BMW in the F1 or the Mercedes in the Pagani Zonda. Or can we get hands on V12 from a luxury car and tune it? Why lower the compression ratio? So that it can run low octane fuel? Instead, a rev limiter could work in combination with even less fat lobes on the cam.

In Australia it depends on the vehicle classification the engine is going in. In this case we had to be within a % of the largest manufacturer option for the chassis.

So, if you destroked it, what bore and stroke did it end up with? I am really hoping for 4.125 x 3.268.
@V12LS4 жыл бұрын
In this case we had to be under 500ci so went with a 4" bore and 3.267" stroke giving 493 CI / 8.1L. A big bore, short stroke would be cool though.
@dougbackman7788 Жыл бұрын
@@V12LS Was there ever any testing done with a stock LS7 4.125 bore and 4" stroke arrangement / 10.5L? I know it wouldn't rev as high/fast but the low end torque numbers would probably be impressive.

This is really cool, but for what it costs, it's power level isn't all that impressive. Could make the same streetable horse with a big V8 and have many more cylinder head, cam, header and intake options ... And, imagine all the mods and headaches to fit it into a car.

@V12LS2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking an interest. This one was severely restricted by Engineering requirements for street registration in a giveaway car. Link to video with more detail below. It was challenging making a low enough number to keep them happy given the same engine makes over 750HP with a better cam and compression. Not surprisingly around 1.5x the same specs in a V8. More information on the de-tuning here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpWsh3x8iMyoj9U

@@V12LS That is totally understandable and believable. Looks like some great engineering went into it. I especially notice the added head bolts around each cylinder makes it seem like you have forced induction planned for the future.
