To me it's absolutely baffling that such a huge piece of equipment is not on the rails. It's like what possibly could have happened to caused this accident. What could cause these gigantic things to be in pieces.
@patrickgarant36434 жыл бұрын
A triangle piece of hard wood on the inside of one rail only needs to lift up one wheel 1 inch to cause the train to derail. Once one starts the rest are sure to fallow.
@lucaslawless42914 жыл бұрын
There is actually a video of the accident right after it happened. It hit some piece of large road equipment I forget exactly what it was that was stopped on the crossing. The locomotive didn't end up completely on its side, amazingly enough the only thing that kept it from falling was the coupler between it and the second engine. It definitely was leaning hard to it's right though.
@temotormouth4 жыл бұрын
@@lucaslawless4291 not sure what derailment you are referring to. This was a single unit and definitely ended up on its side. There was no large piece of equipment on the track. It rear ended a northbound and took out another on the next track. I know the details, but out of respect to my co-worker and company policy I’m not at liberty to discuss.

Great video and excellent commentary - thank you for posting. It seems that in the last two years, there have been more and more accidents on the US railroads. Do you think it's indicative of a lack of investment in maintenance? (I don't live in America, just asking objectively as a longtime admirer of American locomotion). Are there any statistics to back this up or are there just more railfans with cameras reporting incidents which have always (sadly) been happening?
@v12productions4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The railroad self-reports the accidents to the Federal Railroad Administration and they put that info on their website for the public to view. I may eventually compare the numbers from this year to previous years. I can definitely say I've covered quite a few accidents on this KZbin channel this year and all of those have been no more than 20 miles from where I live.

Most likely only a few of those Units are burning fuel. Railroads routinely Move Power (aka Units) and Other Cars for Other Railroads around the Country. Make a Lot of Sense to work with each other when they can instead of against each other. It’s ALL about Efficiency and the Customers using the Railroads to help move products from their Businesses. 👍

"Power Move" - Think in terms of common sense. The Power Desk assigns locomotives to a train based on tonnage. Some days the needs are greater or less than average. Some subdivisions create far more loads going in one direction than the other and over time the power desk needs to deal with re-balancing where everything is. If you watch some of the Virtual Railfan Grab Bags the BNSF routinely has large power moves of 15-25 units at a time.
@thomasboese37934 жыл бұрын
@Utah Rails I never made any statement that all locos in a power mover were powered up at the same time. Here is a little clip I found back in 2012 that I'm using as a modeling reference. Enjoy! Note: Just the first two and the last two units are running. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX7Sn5mOqrCoerc
