I love incentive to do things that contradict the "META". Nothing makes my eyes glaze over like when I see a trend of gamers repeating the mantra "you DON'T want to x" - not a fault of the gamers mind you, but an opportunity for the developers to step in and reintroduce some bi-directionality to their game. If you go from serfdom to.. whichever one gives farmers support, you can really easily pass landowners. I did it with India and the farmers never went out of power the rest of my game.

India has more agriculture potential than Europe and also rice tho, so it's gonna be harder in Europe and smaller countries.

In retrospect I should have gone this first and forced a rev, I was just trying to get off traditionalism literally as fast as possible, not caring about anything else, and figured it would be faster to do agrarianism right away instead of homesteading into it.

One problem I have on Japan with empowering Heimins(Rural folks) early on is that I can't easy pass Open Borders law until like late midgame.

usually 10% chance to pass something is also too low. I struggle a lot with passing laws esp. if the chance this low that i don't bother with it or that i only do it if there's no other option because chance of success is very low. Though it was worth the shot since there wasn't a revolution to preserve traditionalism being popped up.@@generalistgaming

20:00 this is pretty unlucky, usually the -100 to ruler is really good here since it lets you abdicate your starting ruler for a meticulous one without the nasty traits and a nice loyalists event, but he already died before 5 years in

1:05:04 I don`t think it buggy here. It`s how subjects always works, you can`t capitulate subject without caping their overload. (OFC vassalize/dominion/pupeting breaked by becoming protectorate not work as intended, I think it happends because you can`t vassalize one who already subject. It must mean that only subjigate-type wargoals breaked by becoming protectorate. And we can see that Annex wargoal on rebelion not breaked)

The farms are a bit cheaper, but the tradeoff is that they benefit much less from labor saving PMs. In the lategame you will need much more pops to operate them than with any other method to get grain and many will be laborers, so your SOL will be lower for it.

Generalist I wanna point out that when Sulu sway Qing by becoming their protectorade, all conquer states war goal on Sulu started to cost zero manubers, so I think wars it's not bricked. Try to look, when it happens again, if you can have transfer subject it's for free maneuvers

I really want to spend some time with the 1.5 open beta, but after 30 minutes of playing as USA, I am not sure I can do it until some things get figured out. Bricking a dominion war goal by reverse swaying to protectorate (Mexico to France, I am looking at you) is painful. Am I supposed to eat 50+ infamy and then have no war goal? Can't figure out how to do a planned naval invasion (or any naval invasion), but that is just buttonology. I understand this is a beta, and I would love to provide feedback to the devs, but this hurts. I guess I will drop back to 1.4 and cry with no companies.

Please inform me if rice farms take up more arable land, because if they take the standard 1, that means that states with rice are twice as efficient for grain per arable land which is also huge

The main reason behind this is that Subsistence Rice Paddies used twice as much labor as the other subsistence buildings (with a corresponding double output), but the Rice Farm didn't, and so it universally resulted in people being put into unemployment, even with no labor reduction production methods. Not all places with Rice Farm available had Subsistence Rice Paddies, but most did.

Trying to follow this guide in my playthrough, however it seems that the likelihood of US/Britain/anyone really pushing the 'open market' wargoal on Japan has been nerved drastically, maybe even made impossible. I tried some 50 different wargoals on different nations and they only ever want treaty ports or war reparations in return. Anybody has an idea how this could still work?

I haven't done Japan since before 1.5, but it helped a lot in previous patches if you specifically declare war on the subjects of the UK, rather than the UK itself. 1.5 ai is much more aggressive to Japan in general though.

It provides more strategy into where you want to develop because you have to balance between factory throughput and quality of life. I have always been building everywhere sparsely and I can only be happy that it is helping enable my strategy.
