John Carpenter is a genius and during this period of time he was on a goddamn roll making classic film one after the other. EFNY, Halloween, The Thing, They Live are all some of my most favorite films.

15:17 - what an incredibly pithy comment by Carpenter, and remarkably in contrast to the ensuing 25 years of popular culture since the time of this interview. Now, instead of waiting a few years for something to be considered classic (as Carpenter rightly suggests we should do), the "instant classics" pop up every 5 minutes. and in reality there's been a handful of American movies made since the 2000s that people will remember as being significant in 25 years. there's no concern for timelessness or durability because our films - like our music - are our technology now. it's how something is made rather than how or why it means that people care about today. Sad.

I was shocked when I realized that a Isaac Hayes was doing the role of The Duke, for a 1981 movie, it was extremely extremely rare that an African American had a role of such power, being the absolute leader of NY crime world.

Am I wrong to want a reboot of this movie? I have thought of several ways to do it. 1: completely CGI Snake Pliskin as his young original self and have Kurt Russel do the voice. 2: make it an animated movie. 3. All the characters are exact look-alikes and must voice train to sound exactly like the originals. I feel like it needs the modern effects of today. SO many ideas you could add!
@Snandra66
@Snandra66 2 жыл бұрын
I'd much rather have a brand new original movie with the spirit of movies like Escape From New York, these days studios are obsessed with remaking and rebooting just to cash in on whatever they happen to own the rights to instead of funding smaller original movies from unknown directors.
