1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28: Muscle Car Of The Week Episode 274
1967 saw the introduction of the Chevrolet Camaro, and by mid-year, a hot one called the Z/28 was offered. Z/28 was option code for the Special Performance Package, which packed a high-revving 302 V8, 4-speed manual, 12-bolt rear, 15” wheels, and other upgrades into a basic Camaro turning it into a Trans Am inspired road racer. This one is nearly new, with just over 7,000 miles on the clock. From The Brothers Collection.

Had a 67 that I rescued from a junkyard back in 1973. Needed a lot of body work from rust in both rear quarters and front end work. It had a 250-3 speed on the floor. Traded a set of wheels at a different junkyard for a 327/4v. (those were the days!!) Put 13” Corvair rims with the center 5 lug from the original 14 inch wheels welded in. Some 50 series 14” that stuck out WAY too far and a pair of Hi-Jackers on back. Had a ball with that car and even won a couple of races with it at the track. Great times.

Another great vid!! I would not restore that car, leave it as-is. Low mile unrestored cars are rare, and they are only original once. If the car is a ratty rust-bucket, then yes, restore it!

Leave them alone when you can. Modify them if they are trashed. Also, it’s been a while, but seem to recall RPO Z27 was only used in 1969 for the SS-350? I thought in 67, and 68, the code was only its engine code denoting it was an SS, such as L48, L35, and L78.

Anyone else notice that this Z28 is not coded 2L on the cowl tag? I thought all Z28 came standard with a 4spd. It's a beautiful Z28 Camaro.
@shelbyavant5081

The Z didn't need 2L because 4L triggered it.

@@shelbyavant5081 All the other 67 Z28's have the 2L except this one. It's Standard. You can't have one without the other. Just like the 396 375hp also came Standard with a 4K and 2L.

@@thomasdavison8996 Oh, I'm not going to argue with anyone on a KZbin column, I'm all grown up. If you think the numbering/option system was "standard" on a limited run of special racecars in their first year of production, then I can't help you. They didn't even all have the 4L. Some were 4P. I mean, by your logic, the car in the video doesn't exist. Of course, that shouldn't surprise me. After all, according to your statement, you KNOW what the other 601 trim tags look like.
@thomasdavison8996

@@shelbyavant5081 I just found it to be an interesting anomaly. I am not saying it isn't real. Oh by the way, you forgot the 327 275hp and early 396 375hp as an early 4P too. And yet, here you are arguing on a KZbin Column. Glad you are all grown up!

The first-gen Z was great on the Trans-Am circuit, but it was crap as a musclecar. By the time that high-revving 302 got into it's powerband, the high-torque street cleaners had already left it in the dust.

Z28's weren't built to be a muscle car. A Camaro with a 396 is what was on order for the drag strip.
@justsumguy2u
@justsumguy2u 6 жыл бұрын
@@w41duvernay It would take a lot more than that. The cam would need to be changed, carb rejetted, and those 2.02 intake valves were not ideal for low-end torque either

These cars with 4.56 or 4.88 rear gearing would leave big block cars like they were standing still off the line, and the big blocks wouldn't catch them because they would be sitting and spinning. I know. I owned a '69 Z with 4.88's.

You know this dude is lying about the miles only being 7000 miles cause the bottom of this Camaro is horribly bad looks more like 170,000 miles and in the snow looks pretty rusty to me. But this year is my favorite I just love the 1967 Camaro z2/8s.....
@V8TV

This is a well documented car, and although it only shows 7k miles on the odometer, 1967 was over 1/2 a century ago. Time, humidity, and other exposure take their toll on cars over the years. But growing up in the rust belt, we can tell you that if this car saw 170,000 miles in the snow, there would not be anything left.
