The 440 was a fantastic engine also.
@jeremythompson91224 жыл бұрын
Before 1970 the 440 was a much better street engine than the 426 Hemi. But the 1970-71 Hemi was a much more refined street engine than the 1966-69 version was because of the switch to a hydraulic valvetrain in 1970 for emissions reasons. Hemi owners no longer had to pop the valve covers off every couple thousand miles and adjust the valves like they had to do with the 1966-69 solid lifter Hemi's. The 1966-69 Hemi was basically a race engine de-tuned for the street but the 1970-71 Hemi was a true street engine. And even then the 426 Hemi was still the baddest big block on the street. The quickest production car in 1970 as tested by magazines was a tie between a Hemi Cuda and a Hemi Challenger...which both clicked off a 1/4 mile time of 13.12. Motor Trend said the quickest car they tested was a Buick GSX 455 Stage 1 but other magazines got quicker times out of 426 Hemi powered Mopar's and an LS6 Chevelle

Mopar set the example very high when it came to racing. No matter what if you take a look at ford,Chevy, Pontiac, oldsmobile, buick they all run Hemi engines in them in top fuel .so they all owe mopar for being number one in racing.

This is a shining example of the WORLD's GREATEST MUSCLE CAR...EVER MADE...BAR NONE! This miracle machine just makes Chevy's, Ford's, Pontiac's, Oldsmobile's, Buicks, Mercury, etc., all crap in their panties. I mean..."HELL".....there is nothing with the class, power, looks, performance, & REPUTATION that the 1970 Hemicuda grew overnight. Instantly... this car became the dominant hero in the all out American "CAR WARS". "THE AMERICAN FERRARI"! It blew past all other wanna bee's. It made the Camaro & Mustang look like after-thoughts. OUTCLASSED & BEAT DOWN. This beast has sold for $3-$4 million dollars at auto auctions and has now been firmly placed as the Record Holder beating out the Corvette Split window. Actually....only a moron would choose a Vette over this PRO STOCK CHAMPION as the 'Cuda has paid in BLOOD to win the coveted honor of 1970 "PRO STOCK DRAG RACING RECORD HOLDER" for the most wins in a single season in the 1970 & 1971 season even though the HEMICUDA had to add extra weight as a handicap because it out=powered the Ford & Chevy Pro Stock cars. Yeah, they were sandbagged to pull more weight so Chevy & Ford could have a chance to win. Still….the Hemicuda's could not be beat.

My favorite color is R4 which is Performance Red . In March the color code was changed to V2 renamed to Tor (Toreador Red) as far as Plymouth's were concerned. On the Dodge side V2 was called Hemi Orange. My 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner which I'm restoring has the R4 inside the left front fender on the badge plate. So I'll be painting it that color in keeping with the basic intention of how it left the factory.

Absolutely sublime design... and easy to forget the base axle, even with a Hemi, was the 8 3/4. (unless a 4-speed was chosen)

I want to thank you and Brothers for providing such a great experience of what it was like back in the day. I was born in '70 and feel a strong connection to all 70ies muscle cars. I could go on about your incredible attention to detail, the back stories and exquisite examples of the erra. My only wish, aside from being in the drivers seat would be to see more real world driving experiences on the road and connection the owners like with the 455 HO. As much as I love to see these incredible specimens they seem confined to a small parking lot which is somewhat disheartening for the pinnacle of automotive history. Regardless I still love and subscribe to your channel, thank you.

The shaker Hemi Cuda..The best damn American muscle car of all times.. they sure don't make them like that anymore. Todays Emission controlled Hemi's don't have true hemispherical heads or domed pistons. Dodge is targeting the mechanically inept Crony's by calling them Hemi's ..

Built a few days before my 6th. It sucks not knowing what has happened in the world before we were born, or old enough to understand. Now I wish I were born in 1890, so I would be a teenager when all the great things in the USA started, (with the industrial revolution, electricity, and the beginning of the auto industry, when there were 400 to 500 manufactures at any given time to work for in the early decades of the 1900's.).

I only got to ride in one of these back in the 70s , it belonged to my girl friends brother , it was black with red interior, he offered to sell it to me for 3000.00 $ I didn't have the money , he wrecked it a couple years later went to junk yard.

My Buddy had one of those new in that Reddish Orange color, it was beautiful. We used to take it to Whittier Blvd and drag race. I had a Boss Mustang and my MOM had a 440 GTO lol...man those were the days. Everyone I knew had some car we thought was nice then, but was actually off the charts badass by todays standards. Talk about living through a standout segment of history and not quite realizing it at the time, I thought they were just going to keep getting bigger and badder...boy was I wrong. Even though I had a Boss 302 i was jealous of that HemiCuda, it had something special.

It's interesting nowadays, one can buy (for not much longer) a base Challenger for $25k msrp with the V6, or the whole hog Challenger for into the $90k msrp range. Back then, people couldn't justify spending for the cost for performance, such as paying double the price of the car in the case of the L88 Corvette, but today can nearly spend quadruple the price for performance like in the case of the Challenger.

How do you remove the air cleaner?
@tyhighway21276 жыл бұрын
Two screws at the top, & it came off easily & this was a purposeful move by Chrysler. They wanted these cars to dominate "SUPER STOCK" class, & so the air cleaner was designed to remove easily & quickly between rounds. It worked as these cars dominated PRO STOCK & SUPER STOCK for many, many years. Even till today.....these cars "PURE STOCK"can run 9.0 quarter mile runs for the average drag racer. Some have gone into the 8's as Super Stock MOPARS! 8 second STOCK Cars......

Pete do you have a 1971 Plymouth Duster 340?
@jeremythompson91224 жыл бұрын
I had a 73 Duster 340-4 speed. Last year for the 340. The 360 replaced it in 74. Even for being a de-tuned smog 340 that car was still pretty fast because it was so lightweight. One of my favorite cars that I've ever owned. My favorite was definitely my 69 Roadrunner 383-727 auto. Loved that car and still beating myself up over selling it
