My name is Thomas, and I totally agree with you. I have a large patch stitched over a “softball size” hole in my stomach, due to three and a half decades of drug and alcohol abuse. Sadly, when my mother passed away in my stepdad’s arms, her last words on this earth was....”Please tell my baby boy to quit the drinking and the drugs!” Mama, I know you’re up there with our great creator, and I just wish you could see me now. July 16, I will be clean and sober.... for five years!!!! I only wish that it did not have to take my stomach, literally to explode.... before I heeded your words and took them to my heart, where they still remain today forever more!!!! It still kills me inside each and every day, that I did not do anything about it while you were still here with us on earth. The very last time we talked, I and only I should’ve been the one apologizing... not you. But, it took a very long time Mama, and I did it!!! I finally did it!!! I am always gonna love you, and I am always gonna miss you, and I am always gonna try to make you proud of me, especially after my last battle, I sure hope that you are proud. Happy belated Mother’s Day!!! R.I.P This song(to me)is about life, addiction, and a lot of anger and illness. Transcendent is definitely what this song is!!! Well said, Eers Link Well said.

I can do this!! I can do this!! Wow....now that is something I haven’t been able to do, or even say, for a very long time!! May the good lord bless you, as well as your family, my new friend!! Thanks for believing in me, and here’s to good times, and good tunes!! ALBA GU BRATH!!! P.S. I am definitely ready to rewrite a “new tune” in this songbook of life, for sure!! A lot of people are always asking the meaning behind the lyrics of this phenomenal song, James Hetfield refuses to explain it because he said once he wants it to be interpreted by whoever listens to it, for me I heard this song for the first time coming back from 3 months in a combat zone in Kosovo back in November of 1996, and the experience left me with a pretty severe case of combat related Post traumatic stress, and hearing this song summed up exactly how I was feeling and thinking, as if James Hetfield was inside my head, it's amazing, it's just a song bit was an important part of my healing process, I remember playing this song for my psychiatrist I saw at Portsmouth Naval Hospital outpatient PTSD clinic

I don't think Load and ReLoad are bad albums at all. If you plan on listening to them with a metal head mindset, you're going to be disappointed. They both have really good songs, lot's of bluesy riffs. The members of Metallica were in their mid to late 30's when they wrote it. A very confusing time for most men I believe. I personally love everything from Kill 'Em All to the Black album. 85% of Load and Reload, only one song from St. Anger though lol (title track) and I'd say about 85% of everything from Death Magnetic

This song is clearly about "demons". Someone mentioned addiction, which is definitely a big one. But, "demons" come in many forms. Depression, to me is a demonic force, which overtakes a person; leaving them feeling worthless, useless, lacking of intelligence. Giving into those feelings, turning to any unhealthy behavior is "feeding" it; thus the line that says once you feed it, it stays. I have battled both of these demons during my life and this song does speak to me.

Amongst Metallica fans, I feel a lot of them look at Load and Reload the same way Van Halen fans look at any albums with Sammy Hagar as front man. Personally I enjoy their 90’s albums. Obviously not as much as their 80’s work, but their style differentiated from that destruction, metal head thrash and mixed it with some themes about addiction, inner demons, etc. and I felt it made the band much more deep and complex. Every perception that’s came through an emotional time is saved for review later. To anyone experiencing this and can’t sleep at night you are not alone! Have to change our thinking process and look for.the good in everything and live by doing good onto others! All the labels on people have to go first.

nah, this song is about a man who got dumped. It's about a man who got dumped, and who needs someone to help him up from it. Addiction, depression... they're just symptoms of this. I can feel it.

When I listen to this song, it makes me feel like I'm a horrible person because of the dangerous things that go inside my head. At the same time it gives me hope that I can exorcize them thoughts and go on with my life without hurting anyone.
