Every Gun in GTA Online… (and it’s purpose)

Guns do not get added too often to GTAO, however there are still lots of guns with different purposes so today I will be showcasing every gun and describing it’s purpose.
I chose not to include non-mk2 variants because it doesn’t make sense to describe it’s purpose when a better version of it exists

A fun fact about the Assault SMG is that apparently it has no damage falloff. It's my main stealth gun and is suprisingly applicable, in my experience at least.

Fun fact about the double-action revolver, it is one of few weapons capable of friendly fire on gta online, allowing you to shoot (and kill) friends even if they are in your corporation

Weapons with "Heavy" in it's name have increased damage to vehicles. The Heavy Shotgun also fires Slugs instead of Buckshot and can total a civilian vehicle in just 6 slugs to the engine.

The Heavy shotgun is actually a very good choice against vehicles; it not only shoots slugs, making it unique from other shotguns, but it also does TRIPLE damage to vehicles, rendering most non-armored cars to flames with only a few shots.

A trick not many people know about, the Flaregun can be used to avoid homing missiles. Though it can be a little bit tricky sometimes

Many know that. But it can be used to DIRECT missiles! Basically, if you shoot fast enough, it will attract your homing rocket and direct it directly to where the flare falls (aka your enemies' feet)

The RPG is definitely still viable. It does more direct damage and more splash damage than the railgun so it's more useful against armored ground vehicles and players

@@calcutt4 Same. RPG+Compact Grenade Launcher are my go to for missions where I need to destroy a bunch of stuff and want to use comparatively cheap ammo. I tend to reserve my Railgun for more testy targets like Helicopters, if I need to drop them quicker than I could with my Combat MG Mk2. And the Compact Grenade Launcher being my choice over the Grenade Launcher is due to a bug with the standard where if you die when it has full ammo it loses all ammo for both it and the compact.

If you soot a flare wile a homing missile is coming towards you, the missile will go to the flare instead of hitting your car. This works well with armored cars like the Nightshark and Imani tech cars. you can also use it in PvP by shooting a homing rocket in the air and then shooting a flare at the target. This is difficult because you have to do this very quickly. I t can be easier by doing it with two players, one to shoot the rocket and the other to shoot the flare. You can also use the emp launcher to disable tanks and then throw stickies on it.

The regular sniper is useful because it saves you from wasting explosive ammo, the heavy shotgun is great when you haven't yet unlocked the assault shotgun and the rocket launcher lets you skip crowd control in the Pacific Standard job.

i use the regular sniper against NPCs so i can save my heavy mk2’s incendiary rounds for players or harder targets like armored NPCs. as long as you land a headshot it’ll kill in one hit 99% of the time, plus it’s good to have the suppressor option since i don’t want a suppressor on my heavy

The heavy revolver with FMJ bullets can explode cars IN 2 SHOTS.... if you are INSIDE an Armored Kuruma, and hit in front/top of the rear wheel, where the gas tank usually is. Outside the car it will take more. You can check that. And you can knock a police helicopter with 6 shots to the main rotor.

The Widowmaker also reveals your exact position by showing a bright red line back to the firing point. The EMP gun disables cars for about 1.5 seconds. Pretty useless. Sure you can repeat fire it - but that also disables YOU because you can't do anything else while you're doing it. And the car driver can just get out and blast you.

​​@@TheRealRedAceBefore the oppressor mk2 their was infinitely more possibilities to counter, if you want proof look at the two vehicles that were in power before it. The deluxo and oppressor mk 1 in that order. Neither has not a hint near as much ability to cause destruction as the mk 2 as both are vastly easier to hit, both have areas in which the operator can make mistakes and neither has counter measures, finally, both have attack delays, an oppressor mk1 must find a landing and turn around to come back and the deluxo must adjust itself. If we go further back to just gunrunning, it was only jets and the oppressor mk 1 with the mk1 having the previously mentioned challenges on top of it having even weaker tracking then it does now and jets being ridiculously easily killed (and still are) by things like explosive snipers so again. The mk2 is a bane of gta 5. Not once in the history of gta has any vehicle been this dominant, this long. Edit: Actually, let's go even further back, jets physically couldn't kill you when you're under anything and they are forced to waste time or get out their jet.

I've taken out MANY Opressor 2s with all sorts of weapons from sticky bombs to Marksman rifles, not to mention vehicular homing missiles and I've even minced them with the the turret on my nightclub Speedo (Opreesor 2 griefers aren't usually smart or skilled). I'm very OG GTA5, and still consider the Opressor 1 and Deluxo as 'new': Buzzards, Lazers and Rhinos were the scourges back in the day.

Random fact 12:17 The weapon model has the Special Carbine magazine (G36 magazine probably) which some people point out that the weapon is based on the MK16 SCAR Model L, which uses STANAG magazines of 30 5.56 NATO rounds, the same magazine and bullets that most AR15 weapons shoot (Like the M4A1)

fun fact you can use the flare like an airstrike if you shoot a homing launcher straight up and then shoot a flare somewhere pretty cool if your in the sewers and ur tryna shoot someone on a bridge PS: also very useful if your in an imani tech car and chose the remote vehicle instead of missile jammer since this can redirect homing missiles

0:56 i noticed that the deagle has more vertical recoil in 3rd person than in 1st. Also the marksman rifle mk2 with a normal optic (not a sniper scope) & Armor Piercing rounds are really good for hitting targets from midrange, sure an AR could do it also but the Marksman rifle h as no Damage fall off unlike a rifle.

Just thought i'd put my thought on this as a RUN AND GUN player. All of the assult rifles have a purpose for close to medium range combat against players, and definitely in heists, but as for freemode it kinda lost its way ever since new weapons and vehicle's came into the game. Only reason i reccomend using the normal sniper for is perhaps stealth missions if you have explosive rounds on your heavy or havent been able to get the MK2 (which has the supressor)

Actually the ceramic pistol is based of a compact version of the Glock 17 which is made of polymer. There was a myth that the glock cannot be seen in airport xrays because of the polymer material.

Flare gun can redirect Rockets. You can spam the RPG. Te MK2 Revolver is perfect for armor or to blow up Vehicles while sitting inside your Vehicle, depending on the build.

Fun fact. The most OP weapon is the SNS pistol mk2 with hollowpoint rounds and a silencer. You cant go wrong! You'll be mowing down npcs like you were using the widowmaker. Widowmaker has a good shot spread for a laser shotgun

The Revolvers also have a glitch that turns them into a Minigun - Heavy Revolver MK2 with that Glitch blows up Cars in a quarter of a second Flare Gun can be used to redirect homing missiles, be that shot by you or coming your way (looking at you, Oppressor MK2) And since Surpressors do NOT impact the damage of guns, contrary to popular belief.. But does seriously slow down the rate at which you get Cops I highly recommend putting one on every gun *especially* the MK2 Heavy Sniper.

The marksman pistol has the range of a sniper rifle and does more damage than the heavy sniper, meaning it will kill any NPC or player under level 100 in 1 shot to the chest. Meaning anyone with half decent free aim can drop their target from halfway across the map. Not exactly the greatest today. But it’s dirt cheap and easy to use. That and it’s a huge flex to win a sniper battle with a handgun.

The only time I saw myself use the precision rifle was when I was doing doomsday scenario and we had to hack. We were covering my friend and I decided to use the precision and it actually held up. It seemed like it had further lock on range which allowed me to pop the enemies in the head at further range. Still a pretty bad gun though.

Hopefully this gets a revision Fun fact, the MG, despite its slow fire rate in the owners perspective, has a different percieved fire rate if you hear someone else use it. This is a sound thats also used with the Combat MG. Also i suspect the MKII Heavy Sniper is weaker in base damage, so has the potential to fail one hit kills unlike the default

MK2 sniper deals more damage than the MK1 since an update a year ago. It used to be people prefered MK1 because the "feel" but now since MK2 deals more base damage, thermal scope and larger mag it's preferable.

1. The .50 Cal Pistol is my favorite pistol in the game. It's my go-to for stealth ops (I have a silencer on mine). You don't need a fire rate when you one-shot everyone. 😁 2. The Flare Gun's primary purpose is for preventing missiles from locking on. Seriously. The Flare gun, in real life, literally shoots fire and Rockstar took that into account when they programmed it. If you're every driving a non-Imani car and you're worried about aerial griefers, just keep your Flare Gun out. If you hear missiles, just shoot flares into the sky. It's also your anti-missile defense when you're on a bike or just running around. Or... you know... if you're riding side board in a friend's helicopter. Just pull out your Flare Gun and now you're that helicopter's countermeasure. Oh and anything you think you can light on fire with a flare, you can light on fire with a shot from the Flare Gun. coughGASOLINEcough coughPEOPLEcough 3. The Up-N-Atomizer is a must-buy weapon for its utility. Being able to flip vehicles without instantly blowing them up is a necessity. But do keep in mind, the Up-N-Atomizer CAN blow up vehicles. It just takes a LOT of shots. So you ARE dealing damage to your vehicle with it every time you shoot, just not a lot of damage. I speak from experience here. 😝 Oh and the Up-N-Atomizer is a decent Oppressor Mk II deterrent if you're accurate with it. Remember, the Oppressor Mk II is just a bike that flies so it comes with all the weaknesses of a bike. For example, getting sling-shotted by an Up-N-Atomizer shot. 😜 4. The TMP or Tactical Machine Pistol is my go-to for shooting from a car. It's got a high rate of fire, decent ammo capacity, and, most importantly, insane accuracy. Like this thing has very little kick and a fairly tight spread. It also does decent damage, all things considered. Sometimes I won't switch weapons when I get out of the car because this thing mows down enemies. 5. The Unholy Hellbringer doesn't need to reload. As long as you have ammo, you can just keep your finger on the trigger. Also, it's 'space' themed so it 's got sounds, flash, and round gfx that emulate lasers. Pretty cool for RP. I use it with a specific outfit I have. 6. The Marksman Rifle is the best weapon to equip with Incendiary Rounds for some reason. So if you want to, reliably, light people on fire with your gun from across the map, this is the gun for you. It's why I have the Marksman Rifle Mk II on my Weapon Wheel. Oh and I wouldn't outfit a scope on this thing. With it's rate of fire, if you run a sight over a scope, you can use it reliably in mid-range, but still have that one-shot capability at long range. Just because you don't have a scope on this thing doesn't mean it can't take someone out on the other side of the map. 7. The regular Sniper Rifle is still a weapon I would recommend picking up. Why? Because it can be fitted with a Suppressor. The Heavy Sniper Rifle cannot be fitted with a Suppressor until you upgrade it to Mk II. Also, the unique finish for the Sniper Rifle is badass. Also also, if you're a fan of the Explosive Heavy Sniper (I'm not), you'll want the standard Sniper on hand for shooting people. I mean... unless you WANT to shoot a bullet-sized missile at someone. Personally, if I'm sniping someone, I don't want to snipe with explosives. I would rather kill someone and NOT attract the attention of the cops, thank you very much. 8. The Sawed-Off Shotgun is my biker sidearm. It one-shots pretty much anything it hits, fires faster than you would think, and has a better accuracy over range than you would expect. I'm not joking about it's power. If you look at all the shotgun stats, this gun has the highest damage stat of any shotgun with the possible exception of the Double-Barreled. It's my favorite shotgun in the game. 9. I prefer the Compact Grenade Launcher over the standard because it's a smaller weapon and easier to aim. And, yeah, being able to use it on a bike is a big plus. Also, you're firing GRENADES. Do you really need to fire more than one? 10. The Compact EMP Launcher is hilarious when used against aerial griefers because if you hit with it, you can and will drop them out of the air and their vehicles will explode when they hit the ground. But yeah, it doesn't have much utility outside of trolling players or being used to improve your chance of ditching pursuers.

A really great breakdown, thank you! #3 has a few interesting uses, that perhaps most people don't consider? It works perfectly for getaways on foot. For fences that you can't cross, you can use that to drop 'em down. Also, it works excellent when you're in a group. It knocks down enemies, and dislocates vehicles. If you have teammates, they are much better off if someone is rocking this. Also a great deterrent and slows incoming npc enemies without an ammo limit.

17:45 Minigun do have one advantage over the Widowmaker. It is a lot harder to notice from farther distance. With the Widowmaker if someone, let's say, try to shoot you out of your helicopter, it'd basically have a pinpoint laser telling you where the attacker is, allowing you to counterattack easier. That is harder to notice with the minigun. Great video BTW.

The Flare Gun, hard to believe I know, fires a Flare. That means it can be fired while in a vehicle which is locked onto by a rocket to redirect it away from the vehicle. This isn't normally particularly useful, but can be used to give the guy who fired a rocket at you their rocket back ;)

You should have mentioned that the sweeper shotgun can be used on bikes. I keep it in my load out for that very reason because it is the best shotgun to use on bikes in my experience. Also the compact grenade launcher doesn’t deserve the hate simply because it makes any bike into a literal nightmare for ground vehicles.

Did you guys know 🤓 the silencer is not to make it silent well a bit but it is still very loud it is supposed to not show your flash when you shoot a gun because it emits a little flash which will let ur enemis know where your at and they might be able to take you down 😊

When i moved to gta 5 from ps3 to pc the compact grenade launcher from my go to for destroying vehicles and trying to pot shot around corners since the rounds from the grenade launcher was pretty bouncy the downside is if you dont know how to manipulate your shots they could potentially bounce back to you
