Set it at 36 total and let it fall in initial where it is. Hook it up to FULL manifold for great response and cooler running.. Its works great for me old school before emissions...

You should have turned the idle down on the last set up. You can use either port. All engines before 1960 ran on full vacuum. In the 60's they started using vac. advance cans to reduce pollution. You'll get better mileage using full vac. and it will run cooler too.

Ur vacuum line is suppose to be connect the line that not pulling vacuum till u hit the accelerator..the line reading 0 at idle is what u want to use. But once u hit gas than it starts to pull suction. That's the in u want to use

Not always...manifold vacuum will advance the timing a little, not always a bad thing!

I'm having the same problem with a fresh built 400 sbc. I put a brand new hei accel distributor in it that has an adjustable vacuum advance but can't figure it out. Have you found a solution yet?

Insert allen key into vacuum advance.. Turn counter clockwise till it stop.. Bottoms out... Turn allen clockwise 4 complete turns.. Drive vehicle and listen for pinging under hard acceleration No pinging clockwise 1 more turn.. Repeat process till it pings then counter clockwise 1 turn till it stops ping. Leave it there... Connect vacuum adv to Ported vacuum on your Carb. Shoot for 30-34 degrees TOTAL advance. SBC like total timing in that area.Good Luck Yazmin Venice Beach Ca 🏁🏁🏄🏁🏁
