Hi There What kind of vacum pump are you using ? Single stage ? Regards
@compositedimensions3844

We use a ECVP425 vacuum pump. It is capable of pulling -1 bar or 29.916 inches Hg (99.99% vacuum). It is a dual stage rotary vane pump.

Folks who made this video revealed that they use an ECVP425. Here's that specific pump: easycomposites.asia/downloads/TDS/EC-TDS-ECVP425-ECVP4300-Vacuum-Pump.pdf I should mention that it's a fairly common pump design and you can find them under a seemingly endless number of brand names, quality and price levels. They range in price from less than $100 to upwards of several hundred dollars: www.amazon.com/F2C-3-5CFM-Vacuum-Refrigeration-Gauge/dp/B01AAB2YCU www.amazon.com/JB-Industries-DV-285N-Platinum-Vacuum/dp/B003M5JFFG You can also spend thousands on a lab-grade pump. Or do like I did and buy one used for about the same price as a new consumer-grade pump. I paid $150 in a lucky Craigslist find for a lab-maintained $3000+ Edwards RV12. Hypothetically speaking, I can run it all day every day without issues. Ultra reliable and ultra quiet by comparison. I'm a big fan of buying higher quality equipment used rather than lower quality equipment brand new: www.marshallscientific.com/Edwards-RV12-Rotary-Vane-Vacuum-Pump-p/ed-rv12.htm

Hello sir i would lang to ask how much cfm or your machine?? And how much presssure i will use?
@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC

Frankly, it comes down to factors such as the amount of vac you want to pull and how fast you wish to pull it. That will determine your pump specs. Using a higher CFM pump (my Edwards RV12 flows about 10cfm) with larger diameter hoses (I use steel reinforced 25mm/~1" Vardex hoses) will pull a part down to the target vacuum more quickly than, say, a 3cfm pump with a 1/4" hose. But if you're on a budget....even a 1-3cfm pump will work well enough to get the job done....it'll just take more time to do it.

why would you clamp off the vacuum line that assures constant pressure?
@compositedimensions3844
@compositedimensions3844 7 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your question. If the vacuum pump would be left on after the infusion is complete, it would end up pulling a good quantity of resin out of the part. It would also overwhelm the volume of resin that the catch pot is able to contain. The key to the technique shown in the video is to ensure a leak-free environment at -1 bar is achieved and maintained prior to the infusion by performing a 20-30 min leak test. This will ensure a constant pressure throughout the curing process once the vacuum line is clamped.

also i think that you close first the feed line and then the vacuum line because you want to regain the lost vacumm due to the infusion .am i correct? i used to close first the vacuum and then the feed but i noticed that my bag was not so tight .
@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC 6 жыл бұрын
@Dromilious By closing the vac line first your feed line is no longer under vacuum. Immediately the feed line is going to want to reintroduce atmospheric pressure. Basically you'll have created one very large air leak (the feed line). By closing that feed line first, you've sealed the system off from the atmosphere. Then by closing off the vac line the sealed system should maintain current vacuum subject to any slow leaks. If you've secured the bag tightly, you should have no leaks....and it'll remain under vacuum until you open one of the inlets to the atmosphere.

You can use polyester resin too. It's really up to you and what the application requires. Generally polyester resins offer better UV protection while epoxy resins offer better mechanical characteristics.

A few comments: 1. Using unnecessarily lengthy feed lines. It's a waste of tubing and epoxy. Shorten your lines and position your pots closer to the plug. 2. Mixing way too much epoxy. A massive waste of materials. It's not like you can't calculate the necessary volume and bump it up 50-100% to accommodate the equipment and technique. 3. Why anyone would position the vac outlet so damn close to the plug. Create a larger/wider flange several inches past the end of the mold on the vacuum side. You can pull past the mold with minimal bleed into the vac tube and no need for a catch pot. This is just a poorly designed process. I've seen it all over KZbin from multiple manufacturers. So you're not the only ones doing this. But you're propagating bad habits.

you posted some really good info under the other person's question, I appreciate that (about closing the vac line last and feed line first). Very helpful overall. But there are just better ways to say things and I think your comment here could've been nicer. It's one thing to have the knowledge of stuff, but it's douchy to have that knowledge and act like everyone else is an idiot around you.
