I bought the VacuFlat and it worked just as it promised. As I was vacuuming the air out I swore it was not working and thought there is not way I’m getting this mattress in my car as I was contemplating giving up my brother came over to check on me and commented how small the mattress was I asked help me roll it and sure enough it was perfect size, plenty of room in my car. Although it was pretty tough to roll and you have to make sure at the end you keep the roll tight and tape it up quickly as it will want to spring back open. This was a life saver and so happy the bag is Re-useable as well...: What!..... yes keep it for a another time or give it to a family member.

I used a mattress bag that I bought from a U-Haul store. Cheap mattress bags have an open end that you have to seal with tape. First you tape it closed then roll up the excess plastic on the end you just taped closed and tape that closed too at least that's what I did. So, basically, I taped the same end twice the whole way across the seam except where I needed to stick the vacuum nozzle in. The big problem you face is when the vacuum sucks in the plastic and keeps the air from being sucked out. So, like this guy said, jam the nozzle of the vacuum into the END of the mattress, in my case, my mattress was 8" thick so I jammed the nozzle into that 8" side of the mattress right below where my head would go if I was laying down, and hold the nozzle in place AGAINST the mattress like you're trying to shove the nozzle into the mattress. That way, there's no way the vacuum can suck in the plastic into the nozzle. The vacuum sucks the air in through the foam you're pressing the nozzle against. I also taped the plastic tightly around the smooth handle part of the nozzle to seal it. After that, when you turn the vacuum on, it sucks that air out of a twin size mattress in a couple of minutes. It happens pretty fast. Then I used a belt to secure the mattress after rolling it up. Then I taped the mattress roll securely wrapping the tape all the way around it in several places and then removing the belt. Done.

We generally recommend VacuFlat bags only for mattresses that are shipped compressed and in a box from the factory that made it. It's our understanding that TP mattresses are shipped flat and uncompressed. While we won't stop you from conducting your own experiment with it, we suggest consulting TP customer service first.

If the instructions are followed completely, a foam mattress can be stored in a VacuFlat bag indefinitely. That said, there's little data available about the integrity of foam following long-term compressed storage -- in other words, we're unsure of how a mattress will hold up following compression for an entire year. We've had success keeping our mattresses packed for about 10 months now, in climate controlled storage. We haven't notice any ill effects during regular inspection, but we're unsure if this applies to any and all in-a-box mattresses.

There is limited data available on foam integrity following long term compressed storage, so I can't make any promises. But I can tell you that I've had two of my mattresses vacuum packed for 8 months, with inspections every 3 months, and we haven't noticed any issues yet.

Any vacuum bags will put creases in the items if stored for a period of time. >>You forgot to mention this. Also the foam or gel mattresses can create mold if stored in sealed plastic too long and hybrids use a cell or coil system-Speaking from experience as I have used vacuum bags for over 30 years.

Mold only develops when moisture is present. That's why the instructions call for the use of desiccant when packing.

If your mattress came to you compressed, rolled, and packed in a box, our VacuFlat bags will work to recompress it. A compressed mattress will return to it's original shape almost immediately upon opening the bag, but it may take about an hour or two for the edges and corners to fully expand.

Most foam mattresses will do fine to be packed for 2-3 weeks in a compressed state. The Queen mattress you see in the video had been vacuum packed for several months prior to us filming this video. Just be sure to use desiccant when packing the mattress.

If it's a gel mattress that shipped from the factory compressed and rolled, it can be vacuum packed. With regard to the compression ratio between gel and foam: this is tough to determine without testing it on a specific mattress. Compression varies even on memory foam because foam density varies among the different mattress brands.

That will depend on the mattress size and the total space in the trunk, as well as clearance space getting it into the trunk. For my own car, I can comfortably fit a full-size mattress in. Depends on the brand and how it was manufactured. We've noticed that some manufacturers pack and ship them standing up, while others do not due to the possibility of foam layer seperation. We suggest this just in case it's the latter of the two.

For a foam topper, possibly. For a thicker mattress, folding will be quite difficult. The foam becomes incredibly dense after compression, that even just rolling it takes a lot of effort.
