As a baseline, would you attempt the test with good ole mop and bucket and see what score that would get? I wonder if there is a difference between stain removal and mop effectiveness. Just because a system doesn’t “get rid” of stains does that imply the system is worse? Just thoughts.

May I recommend two new tests for the mopping of the robots that you can add on? A edge test, and the grout test? Edge would be like dried stain on the edge of the floor where it meets the wall. Grout test is for tiles floor to see after a long period of time of using the robot to mop the floor, did the robot leave any built up dirt on the grout? Cause every time when it mops, the edge of each tile is scraping the mop pad like a squeegee, so potentially the dirt will be scrapped off and left in the gap inside the grout.

This is great. You could slice and dice this stuff so many ways so it's helpful to know how you did the tests. I could suggest one run of the flagships where you dial up each to their highest capabilities, basically giving them their best chance and see if anything changes, so allowing the use of cleaning solution etc. to see how they are in real world use not just benchmark uniform configs which while helpful may not be as accurate for how they get used. I would be interested to know which flagships can actually detect the dirt in your test and do re-mopping runs, that might be helpful to know. Or doing a run of all the flagships on their auto settings and see how that plays out.

@@fookoff8660I’m telling you the S1 can as I’ve used it for exactly that purpose and it performed flawlessly with two crazy puppies going in and out frequently. My previous Q Revo could not handle this at all and the floors would feel noticeably dirty when barefoot. The S1, however, gets it all with a double pass and it’s as simple as telling Siri “clean the kitchen and living room twice” (those are the rooms the pups go through the most). 20 minutes later the floors are spotless. Imo I would like to see a lot more attention being put to corner and edge vacuuming and mopping. Since we're seeing some swiveling mops and side brushes being more common I would very much like to see that as part of the score. Since something that can clean the whole floor moderately is a lot better imo than something that can only clean the middle, albeit perfectly

@@nanobot5365 uhm. Do you know about the existence of dust? It will settle evenly across the whole floor. So if the vacuum doesn't go all the way to the edges and corners it will get nasty over time. And I don't know about you, but I have plenty of floor that is exposed by walls and corners. So if you have a pet you can bet they can make those places dirty too
@nanobot5365
@nanobot5365 9 күн бұрын
@@DraconicBovineI ment just mopping not vacuuming I have nothing against extending sidebrushes but extending mops are just silly. I know that dust particles can fly into the corners but you can just vacuum them up. You don't have to mopp the edges. It just adds extra costs and mechanical parts that can break
@DraconicBovine
@DraconicBovine 9 күн бұрын
@@nanobot5365 imo it's still a very important metric to capture. If swiveling mops can capture dirt that non-swiveling one's can't then the score will be incomplete. Which is why I'm arguing that it should be tested as well. Since they stated in this video that their previous tests weren't good enough because they could not differentiate between the top performers. As time goes you will see the same thing play out again regarding edges and corners, which is likely the next battle ground for robot vacuums

I don't agree with your rule that you turn off all mop features including the one to do multiple passes on dirty areas. That doesn't really make sense. The feature in itself will help it to clean better on the first run. Effectively the mop is being penalised because it's added feature is not being utilised.
@YouTubedarek

I like that the mop tests are eveloving but I agree that the testing method is not what I would have done (and that's fine too). Personally, I think it's odd to turn off features (not a real world situation), they washed and wrung out the pads for mops that can't clean themselves (not likely to happen in the real world), and they don't use solutions even if it's part of the system (not a real world situation). I also think the scoring if weighted very high towards moping but I'm sure there will be some household that feel a torture mop test is important. No testing method will please everyone :)

I currently own a Eufy S1 Pro and i can say it is indeed the pinnacle of robot vacuums that can actually CLEAN hardfloors . In the last 7 years i got a lot of robots but nothing can t compare to this S1. Also tried the QRevo MaxV and X40 Ultra but they don t even come close , Eufy's mopping capabilities are truly amazing . For me what matters is if it can properly clean the house with a simple touch on the station , i don t care about the features. Also a huge advantage in my opinion is that you don t need the phone to start the vacuum ,you can just press the touch button on the station. I mention that i don t have any carpets in my house .

I have SwitchBot S10 as well and does a much better job than my old roborock s6 , I also have it on last firmware and use “dampen mop” feature that empties and refills the robot with fresh water and dampens the roller mop before doing the task. Also the new firmware updates allows more water to be used (at first the water used was too little even at max setting). I think that no robot will ever be perfect and in no time the “best” will become the second best because in this space innovation in the last years proves it. I like the Narwal new robot for obstacle avoidance and the anti tangle brush design, the SwitchBot and Eufy for roller mop, the Roborock for its app and integration with smart homes, the SwitchBot for the easy connectivity to plumbing ( I also saw that other brands added stations for this as well). So yeah, competition is good, maybe more and more will be possible in the future.

Congrats for the updated review process. I really enjoy your content! But, for machines that cost about 1500 euros, I would expect near perfect results, in a variety of situations. With that money you call literally buy an expensive steam cleaner, an expensive wet/dry vacuum (+extractor for upholstery) and a cheapo robotic vacuum and steam your floors in no time flat, blasting grime in seconds. Also Admittedly steam cleaning does not suck the mess, but neither these robot mops if I understand correctly. I really need such a magic vacuum in my life, but their usage scenarios seem to me very limited. What if you came back because you forgot your keys in the morning, bringing in mud and you lunch with visitors right after work? What if your kids throw wet food under the sofa. Will it clean it? Notify you that there is food in a concealed location that is unable to tackle (there's a new feature of the top of my head). Will probably remain there, untill you do your manual cleaning. So for me these seem more luxury than convenience at the moment.

I have a Roborock QRevothat I got last year upon watching one of your videos and I love it I think it works great, I don’t have any particular test other than my kitchen floor always looks clean. All of my current vacuums except two have come from your recommendations and the ones that haven’t were before I started watching your videos, only one that you did a video on that I’ve never really liked is the Tineco pure one s12

Amazing reviews, but a few wishes: 1. Always include the firmware version in the description 2. Do the obstacle avoidance three times, in full light, dim light, and darkness 3. Add a "behind the corner sofa" test, that test how narrow distance between the wall and an object like a sofa the robot can handle. An synthetic test that mimic a corner sofa will tests not only how narrow, but how it can change direction when in a narrow situation. ******************************* * * * ************ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *******************************

DON'T trust his reviews. My Samsung is dumb as a box of rocks. He fails to mention the many many times it just goes in a circle then goes back to it's base. Either he is taking money from the vacuum company or isn't telling the complete truth. My $1500 Samsung after cleaning in a r!ndom pattern just says "finish cleaning going back to base". It might have cleaned a 10' square in a zig zag pattern which isn't much then is done. Ive presssed the app a dozen times and it won't clean completely. Something is wrong with this guy reviews.

Thank you for having an interest in the switch bot. Its not something I want personally but they have such big claims that I really wanted to see if it lived up to its marketing. It so far looks to be doing quite bad from what I can tell so I'm glad I didn't have my heart set on it. For now I just have a Narwal T10 and a roomba J7+ which I think is a perfect combo until a good combo mop bot reaches the 700-800 dollar price point.

I think a metric you should add into the mop testing is how much pressure the mop system applies to the ground as well as how uniform that pressure is compared to the shape. That could better define the performance difference.
@_cedric_
@_cedric_ 10 күн бұрын
I’m not sure the pressure is relevant for such a test, if a robot apply less pressure but clean better it would not be fair to give it less points
@sparkpaul

Robot can only apply as much pressure as its own weight
@Twesion

@@sparkpaul There could be designs where the front of the robot is heavy and the pads don't get very much pressure.

Another great video! I know you have experience with pets and I was wondering if you have thoughts about hairballs and cat vomit with a robot? Especially if I want to run it on a schedule. I have loads of hard wood and a small rug but two very furry boys. I always use your recs!

This is a great explanation of the new methodology! In future reviews, I hope you'll consider taking privacy into account. One of the reasons I would prefer a Eufy S1 Pro Omni over the technical top scorer is that it has independent data privacy certification, whereas most other robovacs don't address it at all

Very good point! I too appreciate the privacy score. I assumed many of the Chinese companies absolutely sell my floor plan without a doubt. As the Chinese government requires them to disclose all data.

Mhh. Maybe really software is getting better on the S1. I‘ve tested the S1 and X40 Master for two month and more than 2000m^2 each. The X40 is significantly quieter with a much better battery. Also quieter and faster with drying in the station. The X40 needs much less care and cleaning. On the other hand, I expected the X40 do better mopping. The S1 does this really well. But not into the edges and not as close to the walls as the X40. Both do obstacle detection equally well. Navigation is better on the S1. Much faster.

Hey @vacuumWars! I have a disability called Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity and cannot use any "smart" devices includes laptops, computors, tablets - and phones. I would therefore love and appreciate if you could include the top 10 picks (or top 5 or whatever) of robo vac/mops that don't require a smartphone, and for which i can use a remote! Also so very extremely grateful for your contect - youtube is how/where i find and figure out about anything since I am not able to really go online. Props!!!!

I'm curious. How are you grading the features category? It seems as though you are penalizing the EUFY S1 Pro for lacking some of the features that the other flagships have but are you penalizing all the other vacuum mops in the category for not having some of the unique features that the S1 Pro offers like real time self-cleaning of the roller mop as well as ozonized water for cleaning the floor and the mop?

I find your movies great. However, the biggest issue with all the robot vacuums now is that all want you to buy bags which is a significant cost, especially if one has pets. TLDR: Clearly mark those that require vacuum bags

$1500 for a novelty machine that you have to tend to more than actaully mopping the floor yourself is illogical. Ive had almost a dozen of these robots over the years and they are too small and weak to actaully clean the floors. They it takes 15-30mins to clean them depending on what they ran through.

Apropos real world conditions vs moistening the map pads before the test, for self-cleaning robots, a realistic test would involve having the mop start its own base station with dry pads. If the base station pre-moistens, great. If not, well, tough. That's what it will be like in real life.

Can you include European brands in your vacuum tests? Vorwerk, Miele, Kärcher

You need more detailed sortable rankings across a variety of metrics on your website. A top ten list is great, but someone may be getting it for the vacuum and not really care about mopping while someone else may prioritize mopping and others may prioritize high pile carpet cleaning over low pile carpet cleaning, etc.
