Vadapalli is the second most popular shrine after Tirupati and Dwarka Tirumala. Nestled amidst lush green fields along the banks of the river Gautami, this village is far from pollution. It is also known as Lollavadapalli as it is adjacent to Lolla and has many Vadapallus within a short distance.
The idol in the temple is Dharu Murthy. Carved on black wood, the statue looks like a rock. The history of the field is as follows based on the petroglyphs here. Once upon a time in Vaikuntam Sanakasanandadi sages came to visit Narayana and sin was increasing in the world. Unrighteousness and injustice are rampant. Begged to be shown the way to reduce them. Then when Vishnu iniquity prevailed with them I incarnated in many forms as well as Lakshmi in the form of an archa in Kaliyuga became a sporting place in the world and a place called Naukapuram in the Gautami stream which washes away the sins of human beings. I reach Naukapuri on the way to Gautami stream in a sandalwood box with Lakshmi. He says to let people know these things through Naraduni.
For a while the people of Naukapuri saw the sandalwood tree floating in the Gautami stream and were invisible to those who went to bring it ashore. One day Swami appeared in the dream of an old Brahmin in a village and you could not see me under the influence of Kali. Before dawn, Suchiga Gautami said that if one goes into the riverbed in a ship with holy mangala instruments after bathing, one can find the sandalwood box where Krishnagarudapakshi is located. The sandalwood box appears as the people go as Swami orders. It was opened by an expert sculptor and featured a statue of Narayana with a conch, chakra and gadayudu. With this, a temple was built on the banks of the river Gautami for the archetype with the features known to the Naradadus in the past and the worship of the idol began with reverence.
The present temple was built in the river basin due to its inclusion in the river bed and later the present temple was built by a family of Agnikulakshatri named Pinapothu Gajendradu.
