Here's the deal with the Crystal Shard, for those not aware. Vader's Vault commissioned the board from Plecter as the next "Sabersmith Only" board, replacing the Petit Crouton in that area. They wanted a board that was smaller and could fit into their new (at the time) Combat Class line of sabers. So ultimately VV decides who gets access to it. Currently that's (obviously) Vader's Vault, Genesis Custom Sabers, JQ Sabers, and LDM Custom Sabers. The Crystal Shard used to be a "Prizm Lite" board, having a few less features than the Prizm board... but now it's a "Prizm+", having a few MORE features. LDM doesn't even offer Prizm installs on most of his hilts anymore because of this. I also haven't seen JQ offer Prizm installed sabers for a long while as well.

Sounds neat from a features standpoint. Needs time to mature a bit more, imo. It's also not as "user friendly" out-of-the-box as Plecter or NEC boards are. Much more involved on the user end than just editing a few integer values in a .txt file or dragging some slider bars in a config editor program.

These companies.... Vader's Vault, Genesis Custom Sabers, JQ Sabers, and LDM Custom Sabers. I consider anything from them to the level of being shelf / safe queens. They may be duel worthy but for the price I personally relegate them to that status. Damaging them during dueling would affect their collectability and resale value. I like SaberTrio in that they are more pragmatic and utilitarian. And during prototyping they test them for duel worthiness before going full production. The price point matches what they are meant for.

Sabers from all of those vendors are frequently abused in dueling groups like The Saber Legion, and have few to no issues. Most common is the removable battery bouncing a little in the holder the rebooting the board; just the nature of a removable battery. Their sabers are built FOR dueling. Vader's Vault's production sabers are called "Combat Class" for a reason. SaberTrio is a basic entry level vendor. If that's all you want to duel with, cool. Do what you want. I have sabers from all of the above except LDM, and they've all handled quite a bit of abuse. I personally can't let a $400+ saber sit on a shelf collecting dust. I need to use it, or carry it. The biggest factor in a dueling saber is comfort while wielding it. VV's Combat Class are some of the slimmest, most comfortable sabers out there. I'd rather duel with my REV-N, Havoc, and Brawler than my Arclyte or Skylar simply because the VV sabers are easier to handle. Easier to maneuver and less hand fatigue over long periods. I don't like my JQ or GCS for dueling due to how thick they are either.

I agree thinner hilts are better for dueling. My want list currently is VV Brawler, GCS Ascend, and WS Revenge. If I need to duel then I would go with any of those to grab. Anything from SaberTrio is a given due to brand loyalty. The new VV Ben Solo hilt looks intriguing except the design looks like it would harsh the bare hand of any wielder. Gloves probably will be de rigeur and the machined design may facilitate better grip. It's such a beautiful hilt that I probably could not bear to duel with it anyways.

Hi Rebel, another informative and fair video. I like the look of both sabers but due to my physique I like slimmer hilts so would probably pick the Mitsurugi. However I have just picked up an OR Super Stunt SSQY to install myself and that hilt is unbelievable. It measures 3.8cm OD at it's widest which is at the emitter lip! To say it is slim is an understatement. Thanks for this comparison and I look forward to your next videos.

Hey ok so I have Vader's cault REVN Elite with a dedicated red and I would like to make it a white blade with red foc but how to I do this??? Also if I wanted to make I pink blade I imagine o could do this as well?? Thanks.
