Thankyou so much for this. im an English speaker. Im trying to learn this song. Im finding bar 10 very difficult. We dont have this upside down 'y' ipa sound in English . Are you able to clarify that in any way.

It appears to me that /æ/ as in the 'a' in apple, is the same sound as /ɛ/ as used in this song. If its different i cannot hear the difference. I'm using /æ/ instead of /ɛ/, is that wrong? Also im hearing /æ/ for E not the /e/ eg at 1:59 'E i sospir'

Hi Eketa, they are two different sounds and that is why they are represented by two different symbols in the IPA. Italian [ɛ] is more fronted and vertical than English [æ]

@@ElisaRamon Thankyou for your reply Elisa. I think my confusion comes from English not appearing to have this /ɛ/ sound. It sounds like /e/ or /æ/ yet it is neither.
