We can never judge historic people or past cultures by what is norm now. This is what creates these stupid interpretations of history and try to make everything based on class, race struggle or economic gain. Musashi, like the knights of the middle ages lived in a very violent time, but that was the culture. We can't judge the past empires by their horrific ways of executing their enemies. Humanity evolves and revolves. Who knows what kind of future we will have. Maybe our grandkids will think that fighting daily is normal too.

yeah...like that time when he headed back to already wounded Kohei Tsujikaze(the one with the scarface) to end his life properly. He thought: Ta fuck!? He's gonna live with that loli and enjoy his life? This is bullshit, it's a scam". But Takezo couldn't take his life, because when he stepped in(into? idk) their house both Kohei and girl were already dead. Kohei died from wound he recieved in duel with Takezo, and girl slit her wrists and bled to death beside Kohei lifeless body. #MiamotoMushashiDidNothingWrong

Went to the hospital and doctors said if he isn't treated in 2 hours,he's going to go brain-dead. Well the neurosurgeon came at 9 in the morning. And guess what by that time,uncle was already brain-dead. I wanted to punch that doctor soooooo hard. If my dad and uncle weren't there,I swear I would've punched him in the face. The calm thing you're talking about can be achieved in sports. In basketball we call that being in the 'zone'. It's the state where you perform at a high level but oddly feel relaxed. It doesn't last long though, once you realized that feeling "wow I'm good at this" it can suddenly break (at least for my experience). I'm pretty sure it happens at other sports too and not necessarily exclusive to sports.

It has another name called the flow state and I’ve experienced it when I was wrestling competitively in high school. There was no extreme effort or any real resistance from my other opponent and all the moves flowed and chain so well together I felt like a snake wrapping around prey. They almost moved in slow motion and It felt like I knew what they were thinking to get out of the situation and instinctively did the opposite. It wore off as soon as the bell ring for the round and we had to reset but it felt absolutely amazing.

That "Zen state" you mentioned is one of the things in life that can't be expressed in words or taught, it's a little taste of controlling the beast whitin you and yourself while keeping a full comprehensive "understanding" or awareness of the environment surrounding you. It's like the build up before a drop of water finally releases from the seemingly uniform pond or mass of water it originally formed part of, the breaking point, time even life freezes and you can get a glimpse of wholesomeness. As Nietzsche will put it is when the abyss looks at you and you're not angry or afraid just observing it back, one step closer to the ubermensch my friend! Great work bro! Just got around to reading it in a few days. I kept delaying it because of the hiatus but man... It’s an incredible piece of art and definitely in my top5 manga. I’ll reread it just to appreciate the art more and will most definitely order volumes. The characters and art are just on another level. Inshun’s backstory made me tear up. Kojiro’s arc threw me off at first but within a few chapters I was fully immersed in it. Takezo is a bamf.

I’ve been a fan of the wisdom of samurai for a while. Having read the book of five rings myself and having learned a lot from musashi’s writings I have a deeper connection to his character in vagabond. Upon reading more of the manga I saw my reflection not in Matahachi but in Takezo. A scared child who thought that being strong would remove his fear and later that fear would be replaced by fury. I held onto that anger for 13 years before I could let go of the pain. As a martial artist of 10 years that was how I vented the anger. To become immersed in the struggle of sparring I could allow that ferocity to be unleashed. But I learned that all of that hate was holding me back. To see the true way and not be consumed by the pains of the past but to live in the now. There was one quote that hit me hard in this manga and it was “Invincible…. It’s merely a word. To be “invincible” The more you think about it, the more you squint your eyes in desperation to see, the more obscured the answer becomes. If something is too obscure to see The try closing your eyes. And see how infinite you truly are.”

to correct a misconception, the manga he's currently still working on is one he started back in 1999 and worked on alongside vagabond. The fact that he's continuing it is potentially a good sign that he may continue vagabond as well, especially since he's said before that he plans to see it through to the end

It's been a while since I read the book based on his life but I don't remember him really killing many people. I remember maybe 2 duels and a battle but other then that can't recall. Gotta find the book.again and read up. I just enjoyed the duel where the opponent had a long sword so Musashi took a wooden oar and carved a rough sword shape and smacked the heck outta the guy. He did this because the oar was like an inch longer then the enemy sword lol
