Aluminium vs Stainless heat exchanger - water way sizes. If you have a system that has older rads and they're not being changed even though the system gets flushed the Aluminium exchangers are less prone to blocking up. Stainless steel exchangers normally have 8 mm or less diameter water ways and can block up more easily. Long video and rather wobbly camera work but I'd definitely get the apprentices to watch in future.

Great video mate, I like your honesty, you don’t have to be the best as long as we are all learning something new, I’m definitely going to put the boiler tails on first next time I fit one. The only thing I dislike about this boiler is the plastic bottoms as it’s easy to melt while soldering even with a heat mat. 👍🏼
@user-yr9hl2mk5h Жыл бұрын
These boilers are abosolute nightmare to install the plastic bottoms are horrendous, where you have to cut the membrane to wire it up are useless if the cable gets pulled and the hole becomes to big the boiler essentially is not room sealed no more. The connections are ridiculously hard to do up. The fact you have to turn the boiler on to fill it up and pressurise it another ball ache. All round shit
@micmac69 Жыл бұрын
One thing for sure. If you don't plumb in the valves first by turning the boiler upside down you'll get totally pissed by the time you realise you didn't read the MI. Even so. The only reason you'd use this boiler is space. Done loads and had a couple issues later. Vaillant came out and sorted 🙏🏼 You'll always have an issue with most boilers. It's life. Regarding soldering underneath. Just use a heat mat. Problem solved 😂

Good job! When fitting a boiler I pipe from left to right, especially on the plus and the pros, so you have room to turn your spanner without hitting other pipes, makes your life easier! Also when I solder I start from the top of the fitting, that way as you solder it runs down into the rest of the fitting and you never get runs out the bottom. Hope this helps someone 👍🏻

It's the same as a Heatline Capriz 2 inside too. Glow worm is the same inside like you say. It's plastic inside and has an aluminium heat exchanger. Budget boiler at a higher price. Aluminium corrodes easily into the condense trap and also rots fast if inhibitor level is low. Stainless steel will not rot at all.

I'm not a gas fitter, just an end user who's reading through the installation manual. At 35:12 you solder in very close vicinity to the boiler. The manual is very insistent that you shouldn't do that and that all solder joints to the tails must be made before you connect them to the boiler. I'd welcome opinions from experienced fitters on this.
