The benchmark rendition of Vakulabharanam was established by the only legendary musician Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna way before Sanjay Subramaniam was even born through the beautiful rendition of Bhadrachala Ramdas krithi Bhajare Sriramam

Arohanam : S R1 G3 M1 P D1 N2 S Avarohanam : S N2 D1 P M1 G3 R1 S It's melakartha #14, which means it immediately precedes Mayamalavagowla (only difference is in nishadham). Hindustani equivalent is Basant Mukhari, which is handled quite similarly to its Carnatic form. It is pretty rare in India, but pretty common in Persian and Israeli folk music. Equivalent Western scale is Phrygian Dominant.
