Criminally underrated guy. Great gimmick, great look, great on the mic and great in the ring. That said, it was the gimmick that held him back from getting in the upper tier of guys back then.

I was 11 when VV made his “big debut.” I always thought he was funny, entertaining, and an incredibly talented in ring performer. At that age, when you tell your friends you’re a fan of the Big Valbowski, you get made fun of and called names. Glad to see now, after the fact, many are rediscovering just how awesome VV was.

Me and my best friend use to watch Raw together and we both said that Val Venis was greatly underutilized. That if he wasn't given that gimmick, he probably could have been given a bigger push. But, he made the gimmick work.

Its crazy to think given the AE was a thing, but back then I gather based off of testament from older people as well as reality TV shows at the time, that being a dancer/stripper in a club back then was pretty taboo, so you can imagine having a porn star in your house alone really WOULD upset someone's wife, whatever way you look at it, right or wrong. Crazy how much has changed.

I’m not going to lie, at 18 years old when I heard “helloooo ladies” and that music hit I didn’t like it. I thought the whole act was a horrible Rick rude copycat. Nothing against the guy personally but I just didn’t like it. He seems so cool to talk to today so I’m sure it was cool back then too. Glad he’s doing well.

He got pretty close to the top of the card. He was multiple time IC champion and even beat Mick Foley clean on ppv. I think he was a perfect mid card to upper mid card gimmick. I think they killed his character when they turned him heel and gave him some weak techno theme music in 2000.
