Fingers like stallions charging across space, a photographic memory, an excellent chess player, 'bishops falling in love with the enemy queen', practice 14 hours a day (play time is practice),.....the mind of this women is simply phenomenal let alone the majesty of her piano play. Sometimes god gives away his gifts in bundles to the right soul in the right place.

12 hrs is on the high side of practice however 8 hrs per day is pretty common for a training musician also I used to practice 10 hrs per day on electric guitar when I was trying to gain muscle memory for very fast and intricate lines whilst learning Vinnie Moore's Time Odyssey album and some early Dream Theatre songs and lead guitar parts. It wasn't the speed that was difficult it was getting the sound right where when playing though lots of high gain you need to be so accurate that nothing came out of the speakers other than the crystal clear notes and no bleed over or scrapes ect. Once I got it super clear I could ditch off some of the high gain further improving the sound. If you are noodling for much of the time this isn't practice. I had a strict regime written down on paper which I did everyday. Playing 3 notes per string and then 4 notes per string. Most of these lines were chromatic as the notes didn't matter. They just served a purpose and nothing else. I practiced to a metronome slowly at first and then upping the speed until I played as fast as could go. I would play lines to the beat and also play them to the 'and' beat so 1 and 2 and 3 and ect....giving a different feel which made me sound very different which is why guitar players can sound so differently when they are essentially playing the same thing.

@@MICKEYISLOWD When I was younger and taking lessons, I would, practise 6-8 hours a day. Back then, friends would poke fun at the time I spent, now when I talk about it, I'm told that's not true, nobody spends that much time at the piano. 😳 Too bad no webcams back in the 80's, or I could have live-streamed like she did.

The story of the white bishop falling in love with the black queen and the search for the most beautiful move is so fantastic, that I would fall in love with this woman If I would not admire her for her piano play. I consider her one of the most musical players in the world.

It's a trap 😂 she likes drama, fall back, or she will amaze you with lots of "beautifull moves". Making an entire drama in your head and avoiding the game rules is scary, her motives are unclear, impulsive, addicted to emotions (especially dramatic ones) I smell danger no matter how I look at it. 😅

Beyond Horowitz or Rubinstein or Gieseking...Ms. Lisitsa is certainly the most perfect pianist in the last 100 years. Maybe ever. I've played music all my life, and every time I hear her, I think "THAT is exactly how it should be played." Chops, soul, emotion...good beyond hope. There is Valentina Lisitsa and then there's everyone else.

Most of old pianists in the past were much better than Valentina lisitsa or any other of today, and they didn't practice 12 hours. Many of them didn't had the perfect technique they didn't care they had the perfect taste and that is the reason why the old recordings will be let's say immortal.

This lady is my HERO; yep I know the right word is heroine; 12-14 hours a practise day when she gets the chance. I used to be ridiculed by ex flatmates I shared houses with, solely because I used to practice about 2-3 hours a day. I love the line.. " people ask you what do you practice and what do you do for fun, well I do nothing for fun, 'I practice for fun'..." brilliant

I have to say, "Chess versus Piano". . . Valentine not only made the winning move, but the most beautiful move to satisfy the emotions of the masses. It's amazing how she only enjoyed performing as a child, but not the practice part; & now her entire life has become a beautiful performance for many to see, the responsibility of fame. Now she performs in multiple ways, not just the piano. Isn't that fantastic!!?

I wonder how hard it is to make a career, then I think she did it for me, kind of, because she shares her joy of music. My abilities do not go far, but playing myself is what keeps me alive (especially after being ill) and this interview ... 14 hours a day ... I practice for fun ... this interview makes me happy. Am I clear enough? Interviewer: " ... and teacher?" VL: "Awful - I would do everything opposite [...cut]" - I love this.

@mrjwowza if age is stronger than your desire/resolve to play, then yeah continue with your compositions. But they're plenty of people who are way older than you that overcame all these "suppose to play at the age of 3 months (practically)". Ask anyone. No matter how old you are, even if you are 5, they would say, " if only you started at 4". The beauty of older students, is that they have taken the time to learn the heart of music in their past: "experiencing life itself".

I have her photographic memory already and I'm almost playing at her speed. Using a metronome and increasing it gradually really helped. She is very friendly and talkative. She's beautifully amazing. I am interested in her left handed talk here. She shows her hands on the table, it is seen that her right hand forefinger is noticeably longer than her index finger. The biological trait of a born left hander (not to confuse choice of left handed writing; see Wiki on this) but born with a larger right lateral brain- She mentions that "she's very visual". Another sign of a born left handed person. All great minds are born left handed-dominant right brain. M Seibold

@mrjwowza I know how you feel. I used to study in order to become a concert guitarist; I practiced 5-6 hours a day and it was unbearable. It payed off though; although I'm not a concert guitarist, I'm a pretty good guitarist. Now I study piano 2-3 hours a day and although it was hard at the beginning, I got used to it. Keeping a steady practice routine is the key - better 1h every day than 7h only on saturdays. Warming up before and after practice also helps to ease the load.

I wish I had that kind of dedication to my own work. 2 hours of 100% concentration is all I can give, after that, I'm down to 60% - my mind starts to drift and tries to find excuses to do other stuff; like going to the fridge to find food, read a random book... going to youtube... lol!
