24:07 i really agree with sydney's perspective. true, as a zombie, you could totally be sentient and still be able to think and move around with an impossibly powerful urge to eat people, maybe even evolve with time like brodin wanted to do, but you could also be fully conscious the whole time. you'd just be wandering, watching your body do things you'd never want to, and just be suffering with no free will for possibly weeks on end (i think even after like 1 week you'd decay, but in an 'apocalypse', i'm assuming zombie's are a bit more powerful than just animated corpses). i mean, preferably, i'd try to find a cure and do everything possible *not* to turn, but if it's inevitable, i'd rather just be killed by people i'm close with and die with, as sydney put it, 'my human dignity'. if it's been around a year and we have ample evidence to suggest that zombies are in control of their actions and not acting purely on instinct, i might take my chances to turn and just run far away from anyone i remotely even like. also depends on whether the zombies are actually powerful, like if they're super fast or strong, or if they're just the normal ones that are walking around, completely braindead and frail. i'd rather die as a human than live as a frail zombie, even if i can think. this is all hypothetical though, i'm still incredibly scared of dying, so if this were real i might just be too scared to die and fail to ask anyone to kill me. then, of course, turn into a zombie and accidentally slaughter everyone around me or just die after turning anyway.

To Jodi: it was revolutionary because not only for the subversion of expectations through Shrek and Fiona, but also it started the trend of pop culture and fairytale/fantasy being mashed up that affected like the rest of 2000s culture

Way to deep. Pop Culture/ Fantasy/Fairytale wasn’t revolutionary…hell Mel Brooks and Monty Python doing both long before Shrek.
@oldmatttv Жыл бұрын
@@KiwiCrisis It was the first animated kiddy looking film that was done in that style, for the whole family and actually almost aimed much more at adults, played with the classic themes in a sort of satirical way, was self aware, and broke the "magic" of animation and all the related tropes. It just wasn't at all normal back then, and was unexpected. On top of that, the computer graphics were pretty amazing even if there had already been a few others. The main thing is that it was revolutionary because it did something that really hadn't been done before, certainly not in the main stream. People didn't even expect it to be the way it was and went to see it thinking it would be just another fun animated film and wonder at the cool graphics and a bit of Eddie Murphy and co, but what they got was the Disney princess killing birds with their singing being so awful and then taking those birds' eggs to make breakfast for the unwilling hero who wasn't really hero at all. The parody also wasn't common in this form at the time. And yet it managed to pull the strings in the end to also work at a more emotional level and be just overall a great story as well as funny.

I agree with the making charity profitable as long as that profits goes back to charity as well. And i think it’s very very good to get a lot of eyes on charity events to motivate other people to do it too!
@_Sloppyham Жыл бұрын
Nah, because that also means you aren’t getting any money for yourself/straight up losing a LOT of money and people might not even do it in the first place if they had to go with your plan. Let’s say a dude wanted to do something really nice via charity that cost $100,000 but that would be a strain on his bank account. If he would be able to make a profitable video that cover the $100,000 and then some, everyone should win. The charity gets money, the KZbinr offsets the cost and earns some extra for his effort that went into executing the idea/making a entertaining video, and the viewers get free entertainment. (Separate from my reply to your comment) I hate how the internet acts like people have to be saints and completely altruistic when it comes to this stuff. At the end of the day, the charity gets money/people’s blindness is gone; end of story.

With the Pokemon thing, the PSA grading is really important. Like the difference between PSA 10 and 9 can be 7-10x in price, and 2x from 9 to 8 and so on. Having a PSA 10 just lying around is VERY unlikely (so I would be surprised if the card Jodi's friend had lying around was worth 20k, probably closer to $2000-$4000 depending on if it's first edition or holo, so maybe less). Edit: Also! The Pikachu Illustrator card talked about isn't an estimated value, it actually SOLD for $5.275 million (whether or not it'll increase or decrease in value is yet to be seen), but it's largely that expensive because it's the only known PSA 10 of an already insanely rare card (a PSA 7 sold for 900k, which is insane).

I lost my virginity in a secluded stairwell in my high school, an hour before classes officially started, senior year. At one point one of the custodians walked past us, but my SO and I were cuddling under a jacket and I maintained eye contact with the custodian until he walked away, daring him to say something. Thinking back, I was so stupid and reckless and cannot believe how much I got away with. The 90s were such a different time. 18:30 I'd rather have blind zombies as they will still need sound to find you. Otherwise we can always you sound to our advantage and use sound as a distraction to escape. If they were deaf, imagine a horde of zombies in an area and they all see you, then you are basically screwed.

Then we'd take turn chucking our sandals at the stack - you get to keep whatever cards you knock off the stack. Another version, is less aggressive, instead of chucking sandals from afar, you blow at the stack from a specified distance.

I feel like as long as we aren't blindly assuming that every charitable act makes that person a good person, there shouldn't be anything wrong with doing nice things for "selfish" reasons. We should be able to do nice things for each other and feel good about it. Everyone else is just a hater (easy for me to say, I'm not internet famous). If Zuckerberg donates a lot of money, I'll consider it a nice act but still consider him a loser for all the other reasons lol I liked Mr Beasts video and people's frustrations with the American system are justified but not on him/he doesn't deserve flack for it. On the Mr Beast thing, i think we'd rather have a win-win situation for both the blind and him rather than the blind just staying blind, but also making charity profitable is literally how he gets money to continue charity. In the end, there's people debating about whether what he did is right, but there's a bunch of people who go "yeah, i have the ability to help people too" and actually help, so it's a net benefit overall.

27:21 I feel like an important part of this conversation on "curing" blindness is ableism. Yes, being blind is a disability and forces blind people to navigate life differently than sighted people, but they can still have fulfilling lives nonetheless as blind people. I have horrible eyesight and am legally blind without my glasses, so I have looked at how blind people go about life bc it's a possibility for me. I say that to disclose that, while I'm not fully blind, I do experience difficulties pertaining to seeing the world around me. Anyway, I personally feel that a lot of people perceive blindness as a death sentence, so to speak. But blind people just have to live differently. I think Mr. Beast could have maybe donated to resources for blind people, which would've helped even more people. Resources like infrastructure such as crosswalks that have braille and speakers to indicate when to cross. Maybe donating to organizations that train seeing eye dogs. But those things aren't as flashy and lots of people believe blindness has to be cured in order to enjoy a full life. *Disclaimer: I don't watch Mr. Beast and haven't actually watched the referenced video, I've seen snippets here and there and most of my information is from secondary and tertiary sources* To anyone reading this, if you wanna check out a KZbinr who is blind, Molly Burke has a channel and she's made videos about what life is like for her as a blind person (she wasn't born blind) and she also does "regular" KZbin videos too, I believe.

You make a lot of valid points here, but I can also understand Mr Beast's approach. He monetizes his charitable acts in order to be able to fund that charity. Once you have made the decision to monetize it you are forced to make it as interesting to your audience as you can, and there's just no way to make donating the money to a charity that provides resources for the blind engaging.

I honestly don't know why toast would relate that Chinese New Year story. I like to think good things about the people who make content I enjoy. He's a man of means his only other option wasn't sleeping on the street. Considering right now covid is the third leading cause of death in America, the callousness of spreading it around a busy Hotel is impossible to defend.

Because thats who toast is. He is absolutely honest about his actions. Most of us would probably do what he did. But we wouldn’t be honest about it to other people because we fear how we gonna be looked ay. Unless the argument is you are an influencer so you should be careful of what message you put out, which is a reasonable argument. I dont think if anyone is being honest with themselves would not do what toast did. Self righteousness is very annoying when it is not backed up by actions.
