Aren’t you all tired of reading comments by people counting models and dividing them by their ethnicity? I am. A fashion show is not the United Nations or a parliament where everybody must be represented. A fashion show embodies the vision of a designer who chooses who is best for a collection. Period. Nothing more and nothing less. I find this identity politics discourse poisonous and destructive. Hope this madness will stop as soon as possible. (And before you accuse me of racism, sorry but I am not. Beauty is not limited to one ethnicity and I would have zero problems if a designer chooses the entire casting of an ethnicity different from mine)

"And before you accuse me of racism, sorry but I am not. Beauty is not limited to one ethnicity and I would have zero problems if a designer chooses the entire casting of an ethnicity different from mine", you say after an extensive racist comment. Okay...

I find words like identity politics poisoning and one more example of white people creating a word or phrase to belittle the needs' feelings concerns' issues of those attention to what's typical and how easy for you to say you wouldn't have a problem with a designer that cast a show with models of a different ethnicity from your own until very recently the last several seasons in fact, this was never an issue . Honestly I wish we lived in a world were these conversations know longer needed to be had .the joy I felt has been ruined by the both of you 😩

Well, representation does matter in the sense of equaling the playing field to its clients. The fact that you are annoyed is alright to feel, but you have to understand they are just happy to see someone alike them. In this industry, representation should help provide the business with more clientele and it’s okay to be damn proud of seeing someone that can be a representation of your culture especially coming from a group that are considered to be minorities. I do admit that it gets annoying that race is still a much talked about topic when it comes to many things, but you have to understand not many people have a platform to display themselves as easy and I’m not saying that Caucasians or light skins can achieve that easily as well. But there’s a more like chance (in italics) for a Caucasian or light skin person to get that platform. That also entails social class b/c of their connections. It gets complicated, but that’s just what I think. :) But all in all, let’s enjoy the show and actually implement the message from the show into our own.

No we are not tired! Fashion is supposed to respond to different social phenomena, and race relations have always been part of that. You're right when you point out that beauty does not solely lie on one race, and a representation of different races clearly justifies that fact. Having a diverse model cast does not take away anything from fashion, instead it shows a revolution and forward thinking different artists, designers and the lot has, considering how monochromatic the model cast was the last few years. Pierpaolo as the Creative Director of the house and the visionary that he is, understands how innovation and true representation of different cultures in the house of Valentino is paramount. It not only bring more clientele to the house, but opens a gap in the industry that has so long shun minorities. I will forever celebrate Maison Valentino and Pierpaolo for a step forward and the amazing collections from the house.
