Hi loves! I wanted to sit down and talk to you about something a little personal... why I had a nose job at 16 years old. This might come as a surprise to some of you, but I decided I am now in a place where I wanted to talk about it and not only share my story but also the reasoning behind why I chose to get it done.
I know you will probably have questions and comments about this, and I will try my best to answer as many as I can ❤️

I HATED my forehead for so long and my teeth. It wasn't for over decades that I would go anywhere without bangs to cover my forehead and would feel so conscious without the. To this day I'm still a little conscious about my teeth. I eventually grew into my face, but also I think just felt more confident as a person. At the end of the day, whatever makes you feel good about yourself do it for you and that's totally fine. I'd like to age gracefully, but I'd never say no to a little help too. All about balance.

I really like my face from the front, but it was only when I started to apply for agencies that I realised my side profile is very weak. I’ve felt really embarrassed about sending those photos in because I feel like it just doesn’t look like me ! And also now when posing I’m very cautious not to turn my head to far from to the Side. I know it’s a large part of modelling to “know your angles” but I feel like my insecurities are really holding me back. I want to love myself as I am but I’m also worried that I won’t be able to progress in the industry because my side profile isn’t as good... any suggestions would be much appreciated ! Xxxx

When I was a teenager I also wanted a nose job really bad. But I never got it because of the lack of money. But now I love my nose. Even my boyfriend loves it and thinks it's the cutest nose ever. Maybe that was the reason why I started to like my own nose more. And I'm glad I haven't done anything to it. So if someone feels like they hate something about themselves, trust me, with time you will learn how to love it.

Raghad Mor could be bad angles of even bad lighting
@heronetherfield2503
@heronetherfield2503 5 жыл бұрын
@Raghad Mor I have something similar, not with my nose but with my skin. My skin is ok in real life, not the worst but not great, but in pictures it looks awful -- dry and oily at the same time, really tired and dull and lots of pimples. People have said that I'm prettier in real life. Like you, it screwed me over for so long. I tried to convince myself that it was just them and not me, and that in reality I was really beautiful, etc etc. But here's the thing: they were right. My skin did look better in real life. Granted, it was just the problems of teenage skin and after a lot of work and research, my skin looks better, if not perfect, now. But here's another thing... so what? So what if you are prettier in real life? Like Valeria says all the time there's more to life than your looks. If someone can't see past the so called problems with your nose, they probably aren't that interesting anyway. Valeria is a model and she still likely has things she sees in the mirror and thinks are "bad". The difference is, she accepts them and moves on. And ultimately they make her that much more beautiful. Hope that helps, because I feel like a few years ago I WAS thinking just like you. With some work and some introspection, things do get better.

Me. I got into college this year and luckily I've been doing really well. But I know (and this happened in high school) if I fail I'm going to be completely crushed lol I don't have a lot of friends I'm not really sociable and I feel very insecure when it comes to relationships: I'm always thinking that people are my friends out of pity. I've never dated anyone. I don't think I'm ugly but there are a lot of prettier girls out there. So my good grades are the only admirable thing in me. If I didn't have them I don't even know how I would feel.

Wow, a lot of times I feel so ugly because I have really bad skin and my facial features are not the best. It’s weird seeing someone so beautiful express so many of the things I’ve felt. I’ve always said, oh, if only I’d look like this or that then I would be happy or feel better. But, you’re right, fixing something externally is not necessarily the solution. It’s often an inner mindset that one has that doesn’t let one grow as a person. I guess I’ve always known this, but it’s still hard to deal with, especially when you’ve been made fun of because of your physical appearance, and it breaks your heart that you’ll never be considered beautiful by society standards. Thank you for sharing, and you’re beautiful inside out.❤️

Valeria! you don’t know how relatable this video is, since 12 my nose has been my biggest insecurity and i felt everything you talked about. The obsession with pretty was so real for me as well growing up and my nose too became so over exaggerated in my head and what I pinpointed as the thing that held me back from being confident; especially with pursuing work on camera that I didn’t have control over. (aka why i do youtube & nothing else lol) This video is such a reminder, fixing an outward “imperfection” doesn’t change the mindset of not believing in yourself. Working on that one myself, thanks for this video

@Vendela 67, I don't think we have the right to shame a person for plastic surgery but I think we still have a duty to be concerned. For me, it appears that if comparison and society's standard of beauty wasn't so toxic than plastic surgery would only be wanted when it is medically needed. The question is why people have a preconceived notion of what beauty is. Are we born with these insecurities or we conditioned to have them? To have a balanced and healthy relationship with oneself by taking care of every part of yourself.

@Melissa I am so confused thinking about this topic. Everyone says they are doing it for themselves to feel better in their skin (not for others), but there is a preconceived notion of how you are supposed to look like that is put in our head from the outside. So to me it seems like trying to satisfy the outside voice that tells you have to change the way you look in order to fit some beauty standards. I am genuinely confused, because that does not seem to me like doing it for yourself in the end. Not that I am against it, just seems really unnecessary in most cases.

Also keep in mind that the procedure and post op treatments may vary depending on where you live. I did mine in France and had to stay at the hospital the first 3 days. I may be wrong but I think in the US you can go home the same day. It would have been too much for me tbh. I always hated the gap in between my teeth. I wanted braces to fix it and my parents couldn't afford it. I wouldn't ever smile in pictures because I hated the way it looked. But right before my wedding when I was 18 I realized that I had to get over it because I couldn't let not smiling ruin my wedding day. Ever since then I've learned to love it and be proud of the gap in between my two front teeth. It makes me very unique and beautiful and different from everyone else. Turns out one of my wedding photographs was used on 10 billboards around Atlanta for a bride show for a few years. :D I would just say to any teenager, wait until you're mature enough to love yourself for who you are, then if even then you want to change yourself as an adult, go ahead its your choice.

Yes, maybe its easier to have pimples and stuff like that today, but nobody in magazines has an *ugly* *nose* thats the problem. I can tell you right now. I've had a rhinoplasty and I have other problems I didn't have before. My breathing is better but now my nose runs all the time and I have small bumps on it that I didn't have before from where it was broken and scar tissue I assume. So although I don't necessarily regret getting it done I have other issues that I'm unhappy with so I would definitely give it a lot of thought. I also had a revision and still don't love it! Just wanted to let you know my experience and they aren't always perfect.

I really feel that I needed to thank you for this video. I’m 18, and since I was 14 I wanted to have plastic surgery, because I don’t feel comfortable with my nose, and same as you, I think all my features on my face are small compared to my nose, which I think it ruins everything. Listening to you made me cry, because I felt that you were talking to me directly. I’ve been so insecure about my nose since I was a teenager, and to me it is very difficult to talk about all the situation with my parents, specially with my father, who just wouldn’t understand. I don’t think nose job could solve all my self-steem problems, but I’m sure I will feel better, and that’s what I want. Also, I think nobody can tell you what not to do with your body, because is only yours, and nobody neither have the right to judge you about your decisions. Sadly, we live in a world where is easy to talk shit about others not knowing what they have gone through. Again, thank you. You talked a lot about people today on the internet talking about this topics and helping others, and I actually think yourself are one of those people, one of those who I’m grateful to follow. You are so smart and honestly after I listened to you I’m having a lot of new thoughts around my rhinoplasty.

At first I was annoyed that you had to film this video and adress it, because I know some people were being a real pain in the ass about it, literally like you're hiding that you killed someone. That being said, now that I've watched the video, I'm so glad you made it, because what you talk about in the end, will hopefully be a really big lesson and inspiration to young women who are watching you. Work on ourselves is never really on a surface level! But even as adults we often think "if i only had .... " I would feel so much better. I'm glad you talked about your confidence and issues in such a helpful way. It's so crazy, you had this "bad" nose, probably thought "why me" at the time, and now years later you're making a video about it and probably helping so many young girls feel better about their own noses! God always uses us for greater good.

i'm glad people are real about their surgeries. if somebody doesn't mention it and is in the public eye it makes you very insecure. like 'Wth is wrong with me why does she look so good now? what has she done? am I just born to end up ugly?'but no she is being honest and is telling us it is okay to look the way you are born and that she wasn't born perfect either just gives people that idolize her a better feeling for reality. and in media, especially with young impressionable people around, you should be real about body image. and what somebody can realistically achieve without surgery. so they don't feel like they were born wrong.

Sam sure it can be narcissistic if it’s at your root jealousy. But most of the time it’s rooted in young girls being told they have to look a certain way, especially when they’re most impressionable which ruins their self esteem and can ruin them for many years.

I don’t want to invalidate your feelings but I want to say that in this age of social media girls are shown to have even less confidence and more desire to conform to standards of beauty that are impossible to live up to. Surgeries have increased. Suicides have increased. Perhaps you seeing different things now is a factor of your maturity. 15 year old girls are still riddled with insecurity.

The teenage years will always be hard. People (adults and kids) will always have insecurities. I do think, however, that there is more acceptance in different types of beauty in today's world. Brands are coming out with more realistic bodies to show the world (i.e., not photoshopped) because people have demanded that they do so. Look at Aerie's whole line of ads, for example. Celebrities are also able to show themselves in a more realistic light through social media...no makeup, struggles, medical conditions, etc. Compared to 1950s Hollywood, celebrities are viewed extremely differently in 2021. And finally, surgeries have increased because they are more commonplace and are more affordable. I don't think it only has to do with them being solely tied to an increase in insecurities. Correlation does not equal causation.

I had a nose job 3 months ago and listening to yourself describing your process felt like listening to me (except for the modeling part) I thought that fixing my nose would fix my self-love and that it was ALL I needed to finally "feel like myself"... that couldn't have been more far away from reality. In these past 3 months I learned that loving yourself is a choice you have to make everyday in order to truly make it. I learned that I will never look perfect, because (and this is not said as a cliche) perfection doesn't exist, even more if we are talking about something so subjective as beauty. I am glad I had this surgery not because the way I look now, but because I now know that the only approval I need is mine, and that the only kind comments I wish to get everyday about my looks are from myself. You are never going to see yourself in the mirror on a daily basis and think "oh, now I'm perfect" and trust me, there is nothing more relieving than realizing that that's not what you need and that that's not what you should be searching for.

I would have never thought you had a nose job because it looks perfectly proportional to your face! Rhinoplasty is a familiar topic for me because I broke my nose when I was about 8 or 9 and that left me with a completely different nose than I used to have. I strongly considered plastic surgery for a really long time and I went to different consultations but I was scared that I wouldn't like the way my nose would turn out. Anyways, I decided to wait it out because I was told I should wait until my face is "fully developed" to get surgery, but not too long ago I decided I don't want to go through surgery because it just sounds scary. I don't plan to get my nose done and I think over the years I've become more and more confident 💓

Ruth Marie Ruth Marie Exactly the same story here Otherwise it’s not my nose, but i get face burns under my right cheek to the angle of my jaw when i was 2 years old, the doctors then told my parents that i have to wait until 18 when my face will be all developed, by then i went to different plastic surgeons but i wasn’t sure about the results and no one assures me about the result, so i decided to wait specially that i was about to graduate and getting to college, then i didn’t want to stop my life because of that, otherwise i wasn’t insecure about it, i accepted trough time and have been something that made me more confident and powerful, few years later i went to other doctors but i wasn’t sure about it at all so i decided even against my parents will not to do it and to enjoy my life and embrace how perfectly i’m imperfect 🤗

I wish I had a mother like that... My family always made fun of me for wanting a rhinoplasty even thought my appearance was one of the main reason for my long depression. Some years ago I had plastic surgery all by myself without any support and turns out it was a disaster and nobody helped me. Now my nose is ugly and broken which gave me breathing and other nose-related health issues on top of that, but nobody cares. They're just really happy that they can say "I told you so". Parents should support their children by making sure to address their insecurity before they put themselves at risk trying to fix their problems by themselves... Now I must have another surgery for my health but I'm so scared. It is a real traumatism.

Valeria, I've never thought that you've had a nose job. I'm shocked. It's weird because I'm going to my second rhinoplasty consultation tomorrow. I'm not insecure. I mean I don't think my caucasian nose is so ugly or I have to change it, so I can feel more confident. It's just that I don't like the way it looks and I'm gonna change it. That's it. Btw in my first consultation I was explaining the doctor how I want to change the tip of my nose (I don't like really slim, kinda long noses like Kim Kardashian's which are very popular in my country). So I showed a picture of yours to him and asked him if he could do tip of my nose like yours and if it'd fit my face. Cause in my opinion yours kinda noses look more natural than those real slim noses. And he said "You do realize that this is not a natural nose, right?" And I was like what are you talking about you're lying. It's her original nose. So I gotta apologize him now😂 Anyways, sorry for my long ass comment. You look beautiful with both your original nose and this one. You're gorgeous. Thank you for being honest & sharing your story with us. Love you!💙

And the doctor said this is not the most natural looking nose and she's got a nose job. (He was trying to tell me that if you want a nose like this you have to understand that this will not look like the most natural nose). And I kinda start arguing with him.

I’m so much happier with myself now and the quality of my life has changed drastically. 2 years ago I was always scared when someone looked at me in an angle where my nose looked buckled. It always made me soooo uncomfortable. It was fine from the front.. in that perspective my nose was small and looked nice but from the side it looks big because I had a hump on it... with my new nose I feel so much more confident. It wasn’t like I wasn’t confident or felt pretty before... sometimes I did but you can’t compare it to now.. it’s like my life is so much happier because I feel good in my skin and I know that other people can see that.
