I love that story of your mom baking a birthday cake for you featuring some of your favorite Valiant heroes. It was also a nice touch that a comic shop owner slipped for a Valiant comic in the bag for your birthday! That’s what it’s all about!

I have fond memories of Valiant in the 90's. I still have my Pre Unity Collection. Those were so hot back in the day. But I really enjoy the 2012 relaunch of the characters. They are so well written. Favorites are X-O Manowar, Archer & Armstrong and Divinity who wasn't a 90's character but I believe was meant to replace Solar. If you like your Valiants I say keep your Valiants.
@LongboxLoveAffair6 жыл бұрын
I definitely love the Valiant Pre-Unity's but am not a fan of the more recent books. Just couldn't get into them. Am selling off a bunch of doubles in my collection right now on eBay = check it out!

Since then I found my self collecting the Valiant universe all over again. I’m over three quarters there. Finding it’s the hardest trying to find the last eight to ten issues of almost all the titles. But I find it then enjoy reading it.
@comicbookninja52682 жыл бұрын
@@charliehobbs7968 those last issues are hard to get. I have since picked up the Dell and Gold Key 1st appearances of Turok, Solar and Magnus as well as the "glossy" variant of Rai #0. Enjoying is all that matters.

Thanks for sharing your Valiant collection.....Im in the same boat where its pretty neat to be able to pick up those pre-unity gems that you could never afford as a kid. Almost have them all, then from there I'll probably just focus on upgrading the keys. They may not ever pan out financially, but from the nostalgia and storytelling points of view...well worth it.

I remember a somewhat familiar story I got into Valiant about 1992/3 and collected for a few years. Seeing all those comics really brought me back to when I was 12. I just pulled out my box of comics, its not that big! Mostly Marvel, a few DC, and some Image. But I am going to take a day to go through everything and see what I want and don't. My boss got interested in comics again showing images of what he had and what he was buying, before that I had completely forgot about my collection, except for a few years ago I went into a comic store to buy a copy of Wizard and was embarrassed to find out they quit running ten years ago!

I’m finally reading my Deathmate comics from when I got them new 30 years ago. I looked up the reading order, and so far it’s entertaining and makes sense to me. It’s not the writing nightmare that I’ve heard it was. Im digging it so much that I might start reading a couple Valiant titles from that era, because I was always an Image guy.

Yes! I’m a Die hard Valiant fan. Thanks for sharing this. I collected when it first came out and was very pleased with the amazing art work as well as great stories. I was hooked! My collecting of Valiant comics came to an end when i was desperate for rent and found my self listening to my new wife who wanted me to sell my comics. So it happened all my Marvel comics DC comics and my (1990s) Valiant comics I collected from the sixty’s were sold.
@LongboxLoveAffair2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! It happens though. Maybe you’re collecting again?? Regardless, those Valiants pre-Unity were trailblazers and great indie reads. I still love them so much.

DON'T sell 'em, mate! I sold all of my early Valiant books about four years ago to pay the rent, and massively regretted it...SO, I've just started rebuying them....rebought the whole 60 issues of Solar, all the Archer & Armstrongs, Bloodshot, Shadowman....and then started buying the new stuff...Divinity, Bloodshot Reborn, etc, etc. Yes, it HAS been an expensive few months! Thanks for this video, pal. Enjoyed the reminiscences!

I love Valiant. I bought Magnus 1 from my lcs back in 1991 or 1992. I bought everything up to birth quake. I slowly bought never everything else from all of the original series from the dollar bins over the years.
@LongboxLoveAffair2 жыл бұрын
I did the exact same thing! Stopped at birthquake (right after Chaos Effect) and years later sought out the other titles. Unfortunately, it didn’t have the same story appeal but was still fun to collect. Just bought a Deathmate tour book this weekend.

I like the new era of Valiant when Dinesh was running it. The new stuff isn't terrible, but I like Valiant when it feels like the entire universe in it is coherent. The 90's stuff was coherent as well. I actually like some of the stuff post-Unity, but it's after the Acclaim acquisition that I started to lose interest. Along with some issues of Marvel's "What the-," Archer & Armstrong #24 and The Second Life of Doctor Mirage was what really got me into Valiant, especially that original Doctor Mirage.

Good video! Im a big Valiant fan too! I didnt know about a couple of those Valiant books. I started collecting in the late 90s so the early Valiant was a bit before I started...but I fell in love with early Image, Valiant and Malibu Comics...it was some of my favorite stuff. I vote for you to hang on to the key stuff...Im not sure if Rai 0 with ever reach hundreds of dollars in value, but Im sure the movie will drive the value up a bit...plus, I would say it is a must for any Valiant fan.

Wow. We have nearly identical stories , when it comes to collecting valiant comics. For the first couple years I bought everything they put out. In fact I was missing Rai 4 and my girlfriend ( now my wife) got it for me for Christmas. I haven’t sold any of my valiant books. I did see that the black cover solar in 9.8 broke $1000 , but one in 9.6 is much less. Around 100. I may try and slab one. At least keep one of each of the pre unity. As you know replacing could be very difficult, if not expensive.

Great video. I’d say keep your key issues, the Bloodshot movie is being shot now in South Africa and is planned to be followed up with Harbinger movies. Also talk of Quantum & Woody series too. Surprised you don’t like the new stuff as there’s some high quality stories and art in the books (eg Ninja-K, XO) and some of the key (new) books are going for v high prices. Would recommend the live action series ‘Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe’ by Bat in the Sun, low in budget but high in fun and enjoyment. #stayvaliant

Nice video. I found ShadowMan stayed good the whole run. Once Bob Hall was getting inked over by Tom Ryder everything clicked. Also Magnus 20 had a great Jim Shooter leftover story of a young Magnus. Sorry some kids cake beat you to the punch. Hope his bday sucked. JK Say, if you have a minute Reading Rainbow did a piece at Valiant Studios. You can see a young yuppie ponytail Bob Layton LoL. GREAT video. 90s Valiant is my heart. A guy w nearly a 1000 subscribers can do alot for Valiant. Too bad Acclaim mostly wanted these properties for videogames. Keep them I say. They take space but youd miss them Id wager.

What's the point of paying extra for a coupon, just buy the #0 issues instead
@LongboxLoveAffair4 жыл бұрын
When you cut a coupon out of the book, it essentially defaces the comic. Especially in an era when people were cutting those coupons, the books with everything in one piece are more valued.
