There are a lot of quotes that bear the same meaning as this. "Your cannot know pain until you've felt joy" and it's reverse are just examples. "Your don't know how it truly feels to fly until you've touched the ground is another." It's open ended for personal interpretation, but the majority of definitions are along the lines of you don't fully understand and experience until you've experienced the counterpart. Take it as you will (hopefully positively)
