Thank you. I have never tried growing it this long.

@@KevinPeres you know what they say. The longer the beard, the more accurate the OTDR trace is. That's not me talking that's ancient wisdom

What happen if my trace got no noise at all, the line just stops in the middle of the screen? Just a bad test?

I have been watching a lot of your OTDR videos. I just started doing Fiber. And the company issue me an EXPO OTDR.

9:44 Hello Kevin, what does the dip on marker # 6 mean?
@KevinPeres2 жыл бұрын
Ray that is loss. Event 6 is what we call a non reflective event. Means there is loss or gain but no reflection. Typically this is a splice

Good morning sir how do I different connector db, splice db,micro bend db, patch cord db on the otdr sir

Hello Kevin Sir, I heard in one of the webinars that its important to select the proper launch cable length according to the length of the link to be tested. So my question is does the length of the launch cable really matter when testing different types of links with varying lengths or it has no affect. Like if I have 1 KM launch cable, can i use the same launch cable for testing links with varying length like 100 Km, 12 KM or 20 KM.
@KevinPeres2 жыл бұрын
Hello sir, Yes launch cable length does matter with an OTDR. The longer the pulsewidth the longer the launch cable needs to be. With that said a 1km launch cable is sufficient for all the lengths you mention. You do need to use a longer one if you get over 120km or so or around 1µs in PW you will need to increase your launch cable. Just make sure that you can see the reflection at the end of the launch cable and that there is some distance between the OTDR port launch reflection and the end of launch cable reflection. At 1µs there is about a 200 meter deadzone after the OTDR port.

I just bought a 720c my tests are failing at the end spike with -20 reflectance, rest of the trace is perfect, how do I fix this
@KevinPeres2 жыл бұрын
The end spike at -20dB is fine if it's an open. If you do not have a receive fiber than in the OTDR Configuration menu at the bottom left make sure you uncheck (ignore) the span end. That is the open and should be ignored. It is only taken into account if you have a Reciever fiber.

What's the span ORL ?
@KevinPeres2 жыл бұрын
Span ORL is optical return loss. The cumulative reflection over the entire span. There is intrinsic reflection from the glass itself and reflection from each connection. These are what make up the Span ORL
