Platinum has a habit of doing little wink, wink, nudge, nudge stuff for the player - In TW101, before basically every boss fight, Wonder Red would at some declare "Diplomacy has failed!" and then the fight would commence. In Bayonetta 2, at one point, she says "So you're saying diplomacy has failed, then?" in an especially cheeky fashion. They love to do callbacks to other games. The use of the "Become as gods" line is definitely a reference to Nier Automata in the same way "diplomacy has failed" was in Bayo 2.

I found in the alternate scenario where you decide to end the sibling, the Ax Legion pops out and helps you do it. I find it cool that the we're never shown why the legions sought out they're original partners, but its implied that they wanted to absorb them to become whole, as we're told early on that their half of us. It also explains why Max's chain was attached to the Ax when you see it again, and why its capable of acting on its own. Your quite literally summoning the ghost of your father to defend you. Great concept and execution, and while the game had some hiccups and arguably some padding with the side quests, it was still a fun ride.

So theres actually another scene from choosing to end Akira to finish off Yoseph. Instead of Akira finishing themselves off with the Arrow, instead the Axe Legion summons itself and holds your hand and for a second is replaced by Max, implying Max somehow became the Axe and together you finish off Noah and Akira.
