"...it all works well..." I agree with that assessment. The painting and weathering of the bridge off camera in monotone colors matches the murkiness of the water. I like the shading of the lower support structure with green, depicting the mold and the dark recesses where the structure enters the water, tying both together. The end result is a moody piece of water and wood, plus the temporary and transitional aspect of the vehicle. This is a diorama that creates a feeling, like an art piece. Well done.

I tried vallejo still water and the results were catastrophic. First I tried an approx 1,5mm coat: 24h later the surface had cracks all over and some bits were rolling into a blunt. the edges shrinked towards the center. Looked more like a dry river bed. Stripped off the mess and tried it one more time with a thicker coat of 3-4mm; result: fewer cracks(but still some though). Applied the second coat of 1,5-2mm hoping the cracks would close. The third and final coat killed my wish absolutely to use vallejo ever again.
@scalewarmachines6 жыл бұрын
Didn DiDo - this isn’t surprising. The reason being this can be tricky to get right. From your comment the mistake is probably not using thin layers . Really you have to think of this as a varnish rather than a resin that might create depth and then hold it. This shrinks and behaves like a thick coat of varnish. Anything above 1-1.5mm in thickness is too thick. That application at 3-4mm is what likely killed it. Don’t worry, it’s not your fault, this product can be hard to get right and can be catastrophic with one false step! The good news is that it’s relatively easy to peel off and reapply if it all goes south. But let it dry fully first.
@scalewarmachines6 жыл бұрын
The cracks though are weird, not encountered that before. Could be degraded batch of product?
@didndido36386 жыл бұрын
@@scalewarmachines Before applying I informed myself on how to do it properly from the vallejo ytube channel even. First layer had the suggested thickness but the result was worse than applying a thicker coat. Between layers I waited longer than the advised 24h. First I thought my mistake was pouring vallejo on a base painted with a mixture of acrylic color and some wood glue provoked the unwanted chemical reaction resulting in stronger contractions but the second layer was not in contact with the painted base having the same cracks so I ruled that possibility out. I even held the room temperature constant to release possible strain of vallejo. The bottle was new and I checked for crystallisation so I don't think the chemical was corrupted. I'll try it one last time with ultra thin layers of under 1mm. This will take days. Thank you.

How did you manage to color the still water without getting air bubbles while mixing?
@scalewarmachines8 жыл бұрын
Just let it sit after mixing - the bubbles will rise to the surface. Then pour & any other bubbles should also rise & disappear before it dries.

I think you can get rid of bubbles by banging your diorama on your table! This should bring the bubbles to the top. Further banging, should burst those at the top.

Are you able to use normal acrylic paint (I use humbrol paints) to tint it a different colour?
@oldbaldfatman27668 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video as I want to get back into modeling after 15+ years, but not up to putting a lot of detail into the aircraft/ armor like I used to. Then found zombie dioramas on KZbin/Google, along with a bunch of post apocalypse/zombie drawings on Google and that's caught/held my interest. Several of drawings show parts of a city with a lot of water puddles, others are swampy and wondered what to use for water. Checked out some railroad videos, using other products. Just wonder if you can drill into this stuff to add rushes, clumps of bamboo, vegetation, then add more of this product?
@scalewarmachines8 жыл бұрын
Yes you can definitely drill it - just go gently so it doesn't peel.

Thanks for the video, very useful. Can you tell me, please, what kind of paste you use for making custom bases?
@scalewarmachines8 жыл бұрын
+Iryna Tarnauskaya Custom bases? In this case Plaster of Paris coloured with acrylic paint. Borders & base are made from cork attached to the plaster & painted. You could also use any of the following if you seal them properly first: wood, MDF, foamboard, chipboard, plasticard, acrylic plastic etc. Have fun!

Hey, I'm thinking of buying this, but I really wouldn't use it much. What's the shelf life on it? As I know it comes 'premixed' in one solution
@scalewarmachines8 жыл бұрын
No mention of shelf life on the bottle - seems to last a couple of years at least.

Scale War Machines thanks :) That settles then, sounds perfect :)
@friedeggnchips40958 жыл бұрын
Kirothe Avenger as long as it is kept in a humid and dry place, and the bottle is air tight, it will stay fluid and runny as normal. However if it does turn into a gel like substance, then you have to keep it in a dry place for about a week until it goes back to normal.

Hello, I am having bubble trouble with other products that I am using. Does Vallejo Still water give bubbles? If so, how to minimize it?
@scalewarmachines4 жыл бұрын
That’s explained in the video. Yes you get some bubbles however it isn’t bad and it can be reduced.

It look nice, but what shuld I use for deeper water.
@scalewarmachines10 жыл бұрын
You could try their Water Effects range (References 26201 to 26205). Or for really deep water use clear transparent two-part resin.
@cyrusfett10 жыл бұрын
Yes cause I have seen some really nice dioramas with about 100mm deep water and this wuld take way too long I think.
@SergioWW1WW29 жыл бұрын
cyrusfett it also depends on the painting effect used in the bottom, more dark color in certain areas can help to get that deep water effect :)

@coleg2559 жыл бұрын
Try shaking it before application.
@khanitechnologies8 жыл бұрын
+Cole Greenlees Would not that cause way more bubbles? From my experience with any glue like substances. Is that the more you disturb it and shake. The more brittle and bubblier it becomes.
@TheDMsTavern8 жыл бұрын
To avoid bubbles, apply in many small coats.
@KossolaxtheForesworn8 жыл бұрын
some hit the table repeatedly to bring bubbles to surface and than they should theoretically pop on their own. there is quite a lot of scene water tutorials in youtube, usually railroad scenery. those guys sure know thing or two about scenery.
