I guess my interpretation of this song is similar to how you describe it, but it always resonated with me as a yearning type of song. I heard this song way after, but it reminds me of a time where I was pining for someone who was moving away soon and I wasn't sure if I could follow. "We're such a rolling wave, so I just roll away, but you're a really fast car to chase" really fucked me up the first time (still does). Also the opening line of "Listen to your breakup songs..." also resonated with me because the person is a songwriter in a band and mostly wrote breakup songs, and in coping with my crush on this person, I listened to their songs a lot. I was also coming to an end of a relationship so the "racing to make someone else's night" reminded me of how I used to race home from hanging out with my crush to be with the current relationship. Basically, this song reminds me of this crush that I shouldn't have had and the "till it all fades out" felt like me trying to ignore the feelings until they went away. (Ultimately, I'm currently dating the person I had a crush on so it all worked out!) This is all to say that I think it super fucking cool how interpretation works and how my life influences how I internalize lyrics. Can't wait for more opportunities to internalize Valley lyrics.

This made me tear up. Your songs were my covid jams - I felt a sense of connection though I never fully understood why. I guess it is what ya’ll mentioned about distance. Kinda sad yet upbeat, like you know this will pass and there are better days ahead.

In the video you reference Bon Iver, is “I bike down” line at all referencing Blindsided? I immediately thought of that the first time I heard the song.
