values are the most confusing thing to learn.

Yes they can be a bit troubling when you first start. You may find that after you gain a little more control placing the value down on your paper. You will be in a better place to learn how the light is affecting the forms and shapes your drawing. This further understating when coupled with control really opens the gate for you to level up. Remember to take it one step at a time. Mastery in art takes a lifetime of study. The goal each time you draw is to just try and get 1% better then you last effort!
