This was NOT what happened at all, they wanted him IN the USA, not free ! He was not a US citizen and never committed a crime on US soil and was therefore NOT legally subject to exported US law. The reason this plea deal took place is more complex and and more secret, but NOT what you portray. The US has now prosecuted a FOREIGN national for a domestic crime, in absentia, for a (supposed) crime not committed in the US, with no defined victim, purely because they wanted to and not because he actually did something wrong.
