These men were the hardest people to sell too now that I look back on it...most disspointing first 6 months I ever had...but boy did it train me to learn how to sell products...pounding the pavement and selling to businesses was the most valuable education I ever forced myself to do....conquered my fears of sales and made me more personable in a short time.

By the way, I still have friends that are my age and they still partying like we did 18 years ago. They're a mess, and nothing has changed. Same drama. My friend, if I was to list the many mistakes I have made over the years it would truly be difficult if not impossible. My top biggest mistakes were 1. As an artist (I am a professional photographer); I didn't understand I have to be a business man first and an artist second. 2. Respect your body and the health of you mind (like you I partied very hard and ran with the worst persons for my success). 3. I never had a mentor, I thought I knew everything and I didn't keep up with the changes within my industry and actually refused new ideas. The worst being the digital age in photography. And there are some other very hard truths within my experience. But since I suffered a major heart attack and spent almost 3 months on my back in the hospital, I had that major life experience you were talking about and I sought out a mentor to help me build correctly for my future.. Patrick you are that person, thank you for what you do for us who wish to make drastic changes to the way we think and starting as a new and recovering entrepreneur who now wants to do things correctly for my future and my new family. Not focusing more heavily on sales 2. Poor core hires in your business. 3. Not terminating bad employees fast enough. 4. Not having good business systems in place. Having prior work experience at your competitors would have been extremely helpful. 5. Not building great customer relationships. 6. Bad investments in advertising/marketing. 7. Not developing your current employees better. Having a successful and fun work environment. 8. Not focusing on customers you can attain.

Since then I have narrowed down to just Print-On-Demand products (t-shirts, custom notebooks, etc.) and I feel like I'm beginning to grow. Hi Chase, don't feel too bad, your not alone. My wife back in 2005 wanted to invest in real estate with a woman she thought was her friend. I tried to warn her, I didn't trust the woman. Well, she didn't listen to me. We lost our $310,000 home, over $110,000 cash she loaned to two men the woman convinced her to loan the money to. And, we had to sell both our Mercedes. We had to move to an apartment near where we had lived. Funny thing is that in 2002 I asked her to invest at least 50,000 in investment gold coins and she told me that she was afraid to do it. But, she wasn't afraid to hand over 110,000 to two men she knew nothing about. The woman she had only met about two months before. After all that loss my wife came home from work crying every day for at least three months. I loved my wife and did my best to comfort her and never said " didn't I tell you not to do business with that woman." My wife passed away two years ago, I was in the hospital room with her when she passed away. I told her I would be ok and that I would take care of our dog. She nodded yes and passed away. It's been a little over two years and it's still hard not having her here. Everyone makes mistakes, even the smartest people. I hope this helps. Don't be to hard on yourself. In three years we were able to pay cash for a small house. She lived in the new house for five years before she passed away, about 8 years after the loss. My father did the same thing, taking out money on his house which had been paid off some years back. Now in retirement he owes 130,000 on his house. when one of my parents dies the other will have to come live with me because the other will not have the income to pay the mortgage. I'm already planning for that. I try to help them as much as I can. So again, don't be too hard on yourself. My wife worked at Everbank as a mortgage loan processor making $65,000 a year without a college education, she wasn't a stupid.

Roberto Diaz Thankyou for sharing. I can only imagine how much that hurt. I am sorry to hear about your wife and I am sure she is in a better place now. That was a very encouraging story. Hi Patrick, I just started watching your videos last week and I am glad that you have provided reassurance for the mindset that I have been developing for the past ten years. I am starting my first business (Fitness and Nutrition Consultancy) in Uganda in January. I have gone through phases when I have tried to talk myself out of doing this. I currently have a very comfortable job and life is easy right now, but I made the decision to move to a new country, create something from scratch, and bet on myself. I am extremely nervous, but this feeling means that I am making the right decision to work for myself. I want to thank you for your advice. I will be re-watching your videos on a regular basis because they are value-laden. One of the best pieces of advice that I am currently contemplating is the fact that our my thoughts will shape my outcomes. If I continue to think that I will have a job to fall back on when/if I fail, then I will certainly fail (re: Rhonda Rousey's loss to Holly Holm). I am working on changing that "back-up plan" mindset. Thank you again for your advice. P.S.: I live in Canada, but I am moving to Uganda because the growing and changing economy provides intriguing entrepreneurial opportunities.

Insightful comments on what a year one business plan should be. Very apt: Your business plan should be actionable items and habits to learn. Such as give away 250 business cards, make 50 calls, read an hour per day, study my trade an hour per day, learn a new skill set each month . Books, Audio CDs, relationships. That’s a business plan. 22.55 “ A habit-skill set business plan is what’s critical over all that other stuff”
