My dad was a workaholic all his life (and my life) he worked 10+ hour days in the factory managing thousands of people and enjoyed staying at work late. He retired and Amazon offered him a high paying high level job. He denied and they offered him even more. He went to work for Amazon.. quit after 1 year (was expected to work 2). Said it was the worst experience in his life.

So they churn and burn employees as long as they maximise capital profits and control of resources that can be automated later. 1. Learn user behaviour data (so we can sell to them on their actions) 2. Invest in space travel (monopoly a market to dictate price, use and logistics to resource rich planets) 3. When you have wealth, companies tend to shape country policies not people's votes unfortunately. Sometimes leading to more monopolies 4. Buy up competitors to absorb their technology, then disband competitor then develope technology for their own direct benefits. This happens more often than is thought

Thisworldismycage Amazon sounds like the back-up to my cool 😎 supervisor. I’m afraid when she gets the spot after my supervisor retires, I’ll be going elsewhere. I have never been disrespected, or been made to to feel less or inadequate until she supervised me on approximately 2 occasions. I will not deal with her, it’s NOT worth it, and I make six figures. So, go figure! My heart bleeds for those who are relegated to working for a crappy company. Now I’m glad I sold that amazon stock years ago. I would hate to support a company with such crappy morale or appreciation for the hard working people making it all possible for them to profit! I’m not looking back, and planning for the day the Amazon type boss takes over for my exit with grace. I’ve had success, and have received zero recognition when it’s the amazon substitute boss. My real boss, is a true boss. I will work super hard for her, and go out of my way to exceed her expectations. The other amazon type boss, well...that’s just not going to happen.

Sure the benefits were good, but if you weren’t there for a few years, you wouldn’t recoup any of those benefits like the paying for college and Amazon stock. I believe they make it a few years, because most people aren’t going to make it that long. Buttttt if you are preggers then by all means I say work there. They’ll take care of you. This was many years ago. I’m very happy at my current job and striving!

This guy is spot on for sure. I held 5 jobs and was awarded bonuses all the time, when they gave them, and they wanted to hold stats over my head until I pushed myself too far. Also, when they want to let you go they will always have 100 different ways to say goodbye if they want. I took a remote training class for Amazon for the customer complaint call center. It was the most unprofessional, unorganized, incompetent training that I've ever been through. I can't help but wonder if Amazon is built on sand after completing that class. But, on a side note, I love shopping with Amazon...you can't beat the convenience.

Trying is just an excuse for not getting results. If they have no idea what went wrong then that's the company's fault. You can't stop progress to make it fair for everyone. People need to figure out how to compete. As long as I'm shopping online, I want to deal with a company that gets me my order on time and in good condition. A company that will make it right if they fail in their obligation. @SweatDeezTexas 1) If you have a smartphone then they can track everything you do in its proximity. 2) I don't have a smart tv, echo dot, or alexa for exactly that reason. 3) This is the new norm. Just like NSA getting busted for tracking our data - they didn't stop because they got busted, they just got sneakier about it. This stuff isn't going away. The best you can do is give them the least amount of doorways into your life as you can. Amazon, by no means is the only company doing this. Just NO way. So, as long as they continue to provide a great service at a great price I will continue making my life a little easier. If I was totally off-grid, which I'm not, I would reconsider my stance.

My warehouse opened back in October of 2019. I joined in December of 2019 and was fired a week from today. My boss didn’t even give me the respect of letting me know why I was fired instead she ignored my email & text message but had the audacity to send me shift messages early that mourning. Well, amazon doesn't control all online business. Sometimes, when I need auto parts, I order from RockAuto. I simply enter the make, model, and year, and I can get parts quickly. They even show pictures of the part I need, and their prices are inexpensive. They always tell me that I will have the parts in two weeks, but I get them in a fraction of that time. I have found RockAuto to be quite reliable.

Walmart Warehouse does the same thing. They have a 'vested system, but I don't know ANYONE who's ever reached it. As soon as you get close, i.e 3 years. They start changing your shift every week and changing your responsibilities until you're late or make mistakes. Then you're fired and you can reapply in a few years, or you can transfer to a store where you make a fraction of what you used to make.

Yup, two years later and it's gotten worse. I'm a 20 year old man, but my body already feels 40. Put in 4 months at a warehouse last year, and currently entering my 3rd month there as of now. It's a nightmare, but I live in a mostly rural area with few other places to work that pay well. Can't quit yet, gotta keep making money until I'm out of debt. It'll be over one day, but it still feels like I've been, and always will be trapped for eternity here. It's hell.

We created a monster with Amazon. Well I am glad to say I have not used the site regardless of how crazy that may seem to most. I remember when the small hardware stores in Philly were selling out before Home Depot or Walmart arrived and at a young age I understood the good and bad that was to come. Personally I have no problem paying more for an item from a local business and I do not need everything in my hands yesterday. We have all become addicts to convenience and it is all changing going into 2021. Jeff Bezos (Not his initial last name) wants to control all retail aspects across the board to implement a system that will be based on a minute to minute supply/demand algorithm. Parts for a 20 year old truck will no longer be affordable, trending will take on a whole new meaning, and worst of all he will eventually control thoughts and impulses should a neurolink become a mainstream item. I give him credit as a businessman with unheard of drive but the story he tells does not hold water for me. I believe he and most figureheads of big tech companies are in someway knowing or unknowingly acting on behalf of DARPA and/or a certain 3 letter agency to play the roll while being am innovator yet taking direction from handlers playing the world game of chess. It's all about power and if you follow the money or better yet the data, you will find the wizard behind the curtain. Mr. Bezo's "leaked" text messages to his girlfriend seemed more along the lines of amateur, even laughable and desperate for a guy worth $100's of Billions. He most likely had to be put in his place and a honeytrap or simply a news headline picked up by the Sun or TMZ type of media falls in line with a 3 letter agency that literally goes about it's business with an unlimited budget and no oversight. The new oil is data and since that agency acts as the global leading cartel, my money is on them controlling all we the people helped them create in record time. Amazon is a blood sucking, soulless company that I can not see any one happily working for in general. Two years would be like aging 10 years. Look at their hiring and treatment in fulfillment centers and let's not even mention their trucks and drivers being hammered to the point they do not care about the vehicle or blocking a main street in a big city. I wish you all the best in the future and hope we can all come together as a species otherwise we will tear each other apart in some way or another. Maybe it's too late...All I know is that I will not take part in their reset and new normal...I do not fear the only guarantee in life after we are born. There is much more energy and consciousness that my soul and all souls will experience after judging oneself following physical death...Gotta be truthful and real in the end. Bezo's thinks of himself as a god that will live forever...Sounds more like a demon to me since we are living in hell on earth going into the year 2021 or whatever year it is or isn't.

I worked one warehouse job in my life and it was the worst working experience of my life. Take a 15 minute break? Good luck. It’s really more like 5 minutes because it takes you 10 minutes to walk through the warehouse. They time you on restroom breaks. They time you on making quotas. They compare you with the quotas of other workers but don’t give you a definite answer on the quotas to meet. They force you to work overtime. They make life really difficult for you. However working at a warehouse did make me a better multitasker, more productive, better problem solver and made me to value my mental health more. If there’s one job that needs to be robot automated it’s warehouse jobs. Got you working a slave on a plantation for barely above minimum wage. Fuck that bullshit! Here I thought serving in the military (U.S Navy Veteran) was hard.

These are all sweeping generalizations. Of course a big company is going to be ruthless, that's how they become big. Once you are on top the others want to knock you down. However, their actual criminality is when they ask small businesses who their manufacturer is before they sell on Amazon, when they are forced to tell them, they bypass them and go straight to the manufacturer. That needs some legal ramifications.

I have never wanted to work at Amazon more than now. They're the best. If you work there, and survive more than 2 years, then you know you're the best. Any company you start, after that 2 year time period, will succeed. I know someone at the top of Amazon and he'll flatly tell me how brutal they are, but he'll also flatly tell me "this is the top of the mountain and it's not for everybody, but if you thrive here, you are the best of the best". That's worth suffering for.

These companies only need you giving all for 2 years, then you can be replaced by someone else giving all for the next 2 years. They certainly make sure the handover procedure is as perfect as possible. I have no idea how they can do this for high ranking roles though. It's not like with Chinese factories that just need a human resource to do 80 hours per week until it dies, and can then be replaced by another resource.

Warehousing employs much of the lower class. A lot of warehouse jobs are moving to these temp, low pay long work hours, pick X amount or be fired. They use staffing agencies to constantly bring in fresh meat. Glad to be getting out of it

During the pandemic Amazon had nothing, so I went to Walmart. Sure things were slow but they shipped with FedEx as soon as an item was available. For instance in on order of ten can of soup, among other things, they sent the 10 soups in 6 different packages. Three times I literally got one can of soup delivered bu FedEX. There is no way they made a penny on my 36 dollar order, and shipping was free. I respect them for that.

Amazons problem is the problem the becomes inevitable- inefficiencies of scale. The larger you get, the more inefficient and unstable you become. The less cohesive the organization becomes. When you have that many employees, some degree of corruption becomes inevitable by pure statistics, and disorganization also becomes inevitable to a certain degree. It’s why massive companies typically don’t grow into infinity, and why massive organizations are typically taken down by smaller innovative start ups. In ‘08 the government called several banks and companies “too big to fail”. They got it backwards. They were too big not to fail.

I work at Amazon and disagree. This is an example of selection bias: the guy's knowledge is second-hand, and the most vocal people generally have something to complain about. Amazon is a 25 year old company, so you won't see many who have been there for 20+ years. But I have met plenty of people with 10 or 15+ years of tenure. I do agree that there is an endless pipeline of work at Amazon and we're less cushy than some tech companies, but that's due to the market we're primarily in: retail. It's a highly competitive arena with razor thin margins and little room for error. Very different from the online ads, devices, and software spaces of Google, Microsoft, FB, or Apple who enjoy 20-40%+ profits.
