It would be fun to see what a third Portal game would end up like. Personally I'm more of a fan of the first games focus on space and portals than the seconds order of operations and tool use (gels, light bridges, launch pads etc.) I wonder what would be kept from either version, dropped and added fresh. The dropped sticky gel looked really fun and something I'd love to have played with. I get the issue of disorientation as I had that experience playing Alien vs Predator as the xenomorphs a long time ago. But after getting past the initial confusion it's a great addition to spacial exploration.

What we have here is a difference in perspective. The writer believes this to be a death trap because the character he’s writing for has full intent to kill you. The game designer sees it as a death option because his perspective moreso represents the player, who’s designed to avoid death, but can definitely choose death with (relatively speaking) little consequence. The thing is, a trap is inherently defined by its intent, not its viability. Was Wile E Coyote just setting up death *options* for the Roadrunner all those years? No, his full intent was to kill and eat the Roadrunner! Whether its avoidable or not doesn’t change the devices intent- to trap and kill you. I'd imagine the next half life to have gorden go through that diorama ride so he can find out about aperture science, on his way to finding out more about the combine in general, since gorden doesn't really know much about the combines' capabilities, and the A.I cores can teach him about consciousness transferral, eventually leading him to make a way to defeat the combine through aperture tech. I'd imagine the next portal would be a VR exclusive where Gman informs Alyx at the start he needs something that won't shut up about consciousness transferrral from an aperture facility, and so she goes through a bunch of test chambers, without the portal gun, meets chell, meets glados, meets gorden, whom she doesn't know, then helps chell who wants to help gorden who has to help glados in order to defeat the combine. Ending up on a conveyor belt that leads into a masher wouldn’t be a scenario many people would foresee

I'm glad that they kept the "Cave Johnson in a computer" idea for Aperture Desk Job.

It’s funny how the Portal 2 team hated Garfield but the Half Life: Alyx team loved him

Funny how I love Portal games but hate Garfield and Half Life games. Maybe there really is something to this!

A trap usually implies something that the victim is not aware of, and you are CLEARLY aware of the mashing thing, so i would also say that it is not a death trap but indeed more of an option for death.

Sometimes a line is not funny. But the delivery is just… chefs kiss. For whatever reason, the serious tone on the line “there seems to have been some misunderstanding over how much the writers hate Garfield” (7:36) was just hilarious to me

Oh I would love a portal 3. I can’t personally play portal because it makes me motion sick, but I’ve watched both games twice over.

I can understand the "we don't make trilogies because we're usually satisfied with our output / exhausted all ideas once we've finished game number 2" argument... less so the "poaching people from other projects" argument mostly because I'm curious over WHAT other projects they're talking about.

A sentient cube would have been amazing. Especially if it was cave Johnson. Like that original scene in portal 1 about having to kill your only friend. But imagine having to take cave johnson all over the place and then half to kill him off at some point to move on haha

It’s for sure a death trap, but wheatley is calling it that just for the lols or just to mock the player, fits his character pretty well

There are so many interesting ways Portal 3 could go after the end of 2. Just imagining the apocalyptic world, maybe there's other major facilities out there.

Portal 2 is somewhere in my top 3 favorite games of all time for sure, so Portal 3 would be a dream come true

I kinda want someone to make a mod that bullet time to portal just to see what that would been like also the adhesion gel, I want to see a mod with that too I don't know how that would of made people sick, there's been upside down and wall side sections in other games before and those didn't make me sick or confused

"I don't know how that would of made people sick, there's been upside down and wall side sections in other games before and those didn't make me sick or confused" did those other games have portals in them? because i've seen quite a few players get disoriented by using portals so maybe having players use portals while on the walls/ceiling would have been a step too far.
@randomcatdude2 жыл бұрын
not everyone is like you. some people are just far more easily disoriented and made motion sick by those kinds of things. valve understands that, and that hurting accessibility like that is a terrible idea.

At the recent AGDQ, a speedrunner showcased the airboat% category, and this reminded me that I never finished Portal or Portal 2, ever, although I own both. So what I ended up doing was to finish Portal 2 in one day (a long one, to be fair) and be very slightly obsessing over Portal content on youtube x). A Portal 3 would be amazing, I would definitively buy and play it! It's super interesting and I enjoyed the games a lot. ^^

on one hand, "death trap" implies an amount of certainty, and no one ever actually dies to that level, but o the other hand wheatley thought it would have surely killed chell

YES a Portal 3 is wanted. I have wanted it since I finished 2... there are so many questions I would love answers to... but sadly it sounds like 3 would be something else and I will be left to question the fate of the world as it finished.

I hope portal has a 3rd game the whole idea and storytelling of the portal series immediately made me fall in love with it it’s just such a smart game man

It's not a "Death Trap" if you can easily see something that can, is, and trying to kill you like one of the turrets patrolling an area, and it gives someone time to think about how to overcome it. It's a trap if it's unexpected or a surprise to the victim and is activated by some seemingly unrelated action like walking into an empty room. That masher is clearly visible and allows the player to think about how to avoid it, more accurately it's a "Death Obstacle."

2:40 while it’s a death trap, i appreciate how easy it is to avoid. i actually really got immersed during this scene in the game because it made Wheatley feel more threatening while even having his silly quips! still my favorite game to this day 🧡💙
